Hello everyone! Some people on here know me for my insaine projects with mercedes. Well im at it again. I have done some severe changes to my 94 e420.I just swapped at very aggresive ring and pinion into the car. Its not the only thing done with the car, swapped a 92 500sel m119 into the car, 5.0 ezl,92 lh computer, port and polished heads, ported intake, mandrel bent exhaust with custom down pipes, two stage nitrous{75 shot] stage 1} {200 shot stage 2} Car hums along very well.

My question is this, before i tear into it, i know people have added a trim pot in the cluster to re cal the speedo. Has anyone done it on here? If so care to share?

:nos: Here are some pictures, a small video after the last picture. Now i know that im not doing 160, but you can get a idea of how fast she climbs.

Hey, is that you, Pat? What diff gears did you swap in?

Anyway, you need an electronic speedo recalibrator. Dakota Digital sells one. I have the Yellow Box in both of my 500's with different gears, works great:

3.69...:-P

Mr. Dave gives vote #2 for the DD unit...who's going to be the 3rd..???;-)

Holy cow what did I just watch?! o_O

If you're using the 500's gearbox, that last gearchange was at something like 110m/h or 180km/h? That's just insane acceleration! I'm assuming that's with nos? Estimated hp numbers?

Correction-factor is roughly at 1.285. That means, as he shifted in the Video from 3rd into 4th at 225km/h, it was in reality "only" 175km/h which is roughly the stock shiftpoint on the 500E from 3rd into 4th gear.
Still the acceleration is BRUTAL!

HP numbers would be welcome yes... His Nitro does add 200HP in Stage2.

Yes that was with nos, with the 2.24 it was a fun car but with the 3.69 its a monster. The car made pretty impressive numbers just shy of 500hp on the dyno. 477.1 to be exact. gotta do some more tuning and dialing it in. Its a really fun car to drive. Exhaust sounds good, not loud until you get on it. So far i have only lost one race......not bad . On the dyno i was running a 150 shot, That was yesterday

Pat, was the video with 2.24 gears or 3.69 gears...?

Christian, the US-spec 124.034 came with 2.24 gears, not 2.65 like the Euro-spec cars. 2.24 x 1.65 = 3.69

NEEEEEED DYNO SHEET!!! HAve you run it at a dragstrip yet? Would love to see the timeslips...

:5150:

:D :D

477hp, fantastic. And it looks so normal, a great sleeper you've built. I'll keep an eye on this thread :)

That was with the 3.69. The 2.24 was not as impressive, but it was fun on the hwy. But a turd out of the hole. Ill be posting the dyno run and dyno sheets. Bringing it back to the dyno monday and then to the track on friday. So i need to dial in the timing, and the nitrous timing. For the strip it will be a 75 shot and 200 shot.

The donor came from a 1993 300se non asr car. It took about 6 hours to do the swap from start to finish. Shim work on the carriers, a new crush washer for the pinion and lots of assemble/disassemble ....O yeah and alot of monster energy drink was drank as well.... I wouldnt tell anyone to put this gear set in the a car. Its just fine to drive in the city but not a hwy cruiser anymore. Very fun car to drive street/strip though. Its going back on the dyno tomm, ill be spending some time on it. If i can ill post the link on here, you guys can watch the whole thing live and see the results..

This car was turbo charged for some time, I just wasnt real happy with the computer and electronics . I custom built manifolds, ceramic coated, all mandrel bent as you can see and heat wrapped. It sounded amazing! It was really fun but i couldnt make it like it 100% .....Pictures below.

Wow... first turbocharged M119 i've heard of (besides C9 group). Do you have the exhaust manifolds still available and can post some pictures?
Have they lowered the compression?

No i dont have them aval, Im sure you will see the set up again lurking around. I built that set up because somebody said it couldnt be done. It took a couple days to build then a few days to ceramic coat. pulling next to people and having it blow off, made some very funny looks!

You're a madman! I like you. :D

Its funny, keeping it cool was no problem. I rewired the front fans to come on at a lower temp and it was fine. And Jelmer, ive been told that before. What can i say.... i like a challenge.

Dyno at 4pm my time, pulled some timing and modified the fuel pressure reg for a touch more fuel pressure. Will let you know the results

How is that possible without changing the fuel pumps? The fuel pumps only deliver 4bar maximum pressure, the Stock FPR on engine load does between 3.8 and 4.0 bar to the rail... The later FPRs do a maximum of 3.8bar to the rails.
So without custom FPR and different fuel pumps this is not possible ;-)

Cheers.

He has a custom/modified fuel pressure regulator. The pumps (unregulated) are capable of approximately 6 bar.

:apl:

At the dyno now keeping air fuel nice, wasnt much more 482.1hp but bumped up to 498.3 foot pounds of tourqe .... I think im pleased with those results. I'll get the dyno sheets posted later tonight when I get to my computer at the house.

Thats interesting, when i check my spare parts catalogs in the Internet they always claim to only produce 4 bar.

~500 lbs/ft is crazy. For all European Folks, thats 677NM of Torque. It must be pressing like crazy into the seats.
I know comparable only the 55AMG Kompressor Engines with 500HP and 700NM Torque (DIN!) - they are crazy how bad they press you into the seats. Yours seems to be similar or even better - Amazing!

It think that's all I can get out of this one, the new build that is in progress will put me over the 550 mark. More baseline power. I have a target goal of 600 to the rear tires. The new 6.0 m119 with 11.5 to one compression and tons of spray should do it. JE should have the pistions to me in 2.5 weeks. Heads are done , block out to be bored to 100 mm and crank is being knife edged, coated and balanced . The rods are out for coating now. I'm working on a custom intake now, it needs more. It's not enough

11.5 compression? Holy toledo! You planning to run 96+ octane race gas only? I can't imagine it behaving on the 91 octane moose juice we get out of the pumps...

:duck:

I'll run 110 in it. It's not by any means a street car at this point. Just a street racing and track car at this point. I am working with my machinest to stick a 700r4 behind a m119 . They are cheap and easy to build and only require lock up. Plus with the present gearing it would cruise nicely down the hwy. I thought about a 5 sp but any fast car running down the track is a auto. I don't care who it is, not many people can shift as fast as hydraulic fluid.

Thats interesting, but JE does not offer a "good" coating for pistons used in ALUSIL Blocks. Be aware of that. People throughout the Internet that let JE build coated Pistons for peoples ALUSIL Blocks were disappointed. Many started to seize.
Please read here: http://www.500eboard.com/forums/sho...for-Pistons-working-with-(M119)-ALUSIL-Blocks

I have found that about JE, however I am buying the pistons Not coated. I have a coater that will be coating the pistons for me per my spec

The only " seizing " I'm going to have is when the cops take the car from me for street racing.....lmao. :-)

So your knife edging a M119 crank or a M117 to get the stroke for 6.0 liters? Interesting on transmission- why not just upgrade to the V12 clutch packs and red alto friction discs?
I wonder driveshaft and axles at that power level. THe 1.3 liter diff was used up up to 580 hp with the brabus V12(or something like that).

Did you go with bigger valves? Major porting?

The m117 crank is being knife edged not the m119. As for the heads they are port and polished . I would use the v12 trans internals but because of the gearing in the rear the 700r4 will be a very economical choice. Stock gm cars run 3:73 rear gears and with the overdrive in the 700r4 will cruise down the hwy at a nice low rpm. Right now the car is not a hwy car at all. You can build a 700r4 3 times for what a merc trans can be built for. The converter stall choices are widely aval to do what I want. Seems Like a odd choice I know but for a street/strip car it will do well with not a lot of mods. A driveshaft is easy and cheap to have built to mate to it.

I know some people are probably not happy because I'm defacing a merc with a gm trans, but I have been known to build some crazy things....:-)

With 3.69 gears and a higher stall converter, you're going to overwhelm the tires pretty quick. Burnouts are fun but they are a lousy way to go fast. Do you plan to run DOT drag radials as well? I'd think that would be required (along with limited-slip!) to get the power to the pavement.

Is there a dragstrip near you where you can get some official timeslips? Would love to see the 60' numbers!!

:tree:

The extra power seems to be putting undue stress on the trans, I wonder why? Lol I now need to fix the trans fluid leak the car has developed. No worries, will be fixed by track day....
