Is this a OEM Key fob?

Hey guys, I purchased a 1992 300CE. It was originally built in Germany and spent some time in Japan. I'm trying to figure out if the blow flip-key fob is OEM. It does arm the alarm and open and close the doors. The car does not have the infrared feature, so I know it's not one of those fobs. I checked with MB Classics, and the VIN calls for just a regular key and does not show a keyfob like mine.

No that's aftermarket. It is fully possible to make a flip key with a key blade from a standard key. If it's been in Japan, be prepared for all kinds of strange (and cool) aftermarket things.

If the alarm works I would keep it - but beware of that some alarm installations are really poorly done, and after 20 odd years the electrical tape keeping it in place fails...

If your car have the factory alarm I would remove the aftermarket one - if you can live without the remote locking that is.

A first-generation IR key fob from MB looks like this.

This is a new replacement (now long NLA) that I got for my 1995 G-wagen back in 2014. I was lucky to get this, but I also paid well over $200 for it. It was made in Germany and shipped to the US through the Classic Center (Tom Hanson helped me with it). My G-wagen is a gray-market model.
