key buzzer

Hello Everyone-
Need help in determining whats needs to be fixed.
Sometimes when the key is in the ignition it will not buzz. If I move key side to side while in the ignition it will buzz but only if I hold the key in that position. When I turn the ignition it will buzz.
If I shut the car off and leave key in the ignition it will not buzz.
What do you think?
What do you think about cost?
Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays to all.

Sounds like a wonky electrical connection/contact inside of the ignition switch.

I think I'd pursue a fix by perhaps spraying some electrical contact cleaner inside the switch via a small tube, perhaps followed by some graphite or silicone lube.

If that doesn't work, and the buzzer is important to you, I'd just order a new switch from MB. As long as the key works and turns in the lock, changing it is not a big deal. And, a new ignition lock/switch isn't a horribly expensive thing to order.

Cheers,
Gerry

On a related note, the annoying seatbelt buzzer (which goes off when you turn the key on / start the car without the driver's belt buckled) can be easily disabled. Move the seat fully to the rear, pry off the leather cover from the electrical connections, and look for a black (not red!) 2-wire connector in a clip very close to the front/left seat mounting bolt. Separate this connection and leave both wires loose (no need to insulate them, the pins are protected inside the plastic housing. Voila - no more seatbelt buzzer.

Disclaimer: I always wear my seatbelt, so I don't need a reminder buzzer!

:)

ordering a new switch would give me 2 keys for the car? One for the lock and one for the ignition?
You do not think the cleaner or silicon spray will cause issues?

A new switch only includes the electrical switch (located behind the dash, difficult to replace), no keys.

A new ignition lock tumbler, VIN-coded, will include one new master key.
