LED Worklamp recommendations?

Hi all,

With winter coming here again and me working outside at times, the worklamps are starting to come out again
:miserable:

Thought it might be useful to have a thread to consolidate what members experience is on good work lights you have? And that are readily available to buy on the interwebs

I'll start:

This is my longest and most used work light. It is:
  • Bright LED
  • Pencil light at top for stuff like looking into and adjusting parking brake shoes
  • Magnetic base
  • Rotates around so you can set it almost anywhere and get it on your workpiece
  • Rechargeable
  • Decent battery life - about 2 or 3 hours on a charge
  • 250 lumens (rated)

The only drawback is that say you're doing a brake job and the car has plastic wheel well liners then it doesn't prop very well on the ground. You kind of need a separate lamp for cases like that.

This is another one I use quite alot, it is designed to clamp under the bonnet

  • Very bright
  • Can turn on one or more LEDs to save power
  • Soft Rubber clamps to not damage paintwork
  • Decent run time of about 90 minutes at full 3x LED power IIRC
  • Will light up a whole room if you prop in corner!
  • They are gimbal type LEDs so you can turn them to certain areas
Cons
  • The ergonomics mean it is intended only as a under hood / bonnet light and doesn't led itself to servicing under the car etc

In action last winter on my S600:

Easy fix, since you probably have metal tools nearby you can attach it to magnetically so it stands up without issue.

I have been pretty happy with this one from Hazard Fraud:

One thing I like about it that batteries can be replaced. I have spare LiOn batteries and chargers and easy to replace in the middle of a job. I have run it through the ringer including using as a rake to clean out gutters in the middle of pouring rain and it keeps going.

:plusone: This: ^^^

I love that light. The slim bar is VERY useful for sliding into tight spaces, illuminating things that otherwise you couldn't get a light onto. Often goes on sale at $25 each. I have several of them. Having extra batteries and a standalone charger would make it even better. One of my best purchases, and most used.

Love the Braun, but it's not water resistant. Yes, there's an o-ring on the battery cap but other areas are not sealed well enough. Not an issue until you spill liquid on it - such as coolant. Ask me how I know...

Good to know! I normally keep mine away from liquids, but just spilling (not immersing) shouldn't kill it. Hmmm. I will keep that in mind... at least I have a couple spares in case I kill one.

:shocking:

I don't use it often but when I need room filling portable light, I have this:

Mine is a couple years old and only battery powered, this one can also be plugged into AC power as a backup.

That's a great light too.
I have the M12 rover and really like it too especially the multiple ways it can attach to surfaces and 3 brightness settings.

In addition, I have their large light bar, great underhood or wherever one needs lot of light.

Lights is an obsession like almost everything else due to amount of information available and great forums.
I fell for it and ended up with a collection of them. Finally pared the collection down to less than 10 including the 5000 lumen handheld that can light up the neighborhood!

I have that one too. But I keep forgetting to use it!!

I have that large one too, but, for the size, its not nearly as good as the small one. The small one, on a size per lumen basis, is way better. Also, the small one feels more substantial.
