Thanks much for this information re: Jono rebuilds. My guess is he’ll be a go-to resource for me for some critical “rebuilds” ... harnesses, valve bodies, smog pumps, basically anything that can be rebuilt.
As for the lower harness, my car sat on a rack for weeks about a year ago while one came from Germany. I hated it then, love it now that it’s in the rear mirror.
I guess it has to be more than a few months ago also ,or else ,you are plain straight up super lucky .cause they have been NLA for soon half a year
The metal pin bushings (male or female) soldered to the wires are sold individually. Many times they can be re-used, it's the wire insulation that is the primary failure.
I had my last one in November 2016. Stocks ran out in early 2017 im told.
For the 500TE project I had to rebuild my own. I did not touch the main wire as it looked in perfect shape. The other wires were toast.
However, last week I bought a rebuilt one from German Ebay. Its not exactly like factory, as it is missing the high temp outer shield, but I added my own.
I bought it as it was advertised as "New." When it came I realised it was actually rebuilt using new wires and connectors.
Im keeping it as it is better than my own rebuild.
it is not necessary to replace the thick positive wire/Cable....or at least i cant imagine that is going to fail .
It is all the smaller wires that suffers from cracking insulation
ahh as i figured..
i "ordered" mine in late summer 2017...cant remember the date at the top of my head..but i reckon it was about late august/ sept....and i waited after replacing the order...and after two months..the order was cancelled..as they did NOT make it...but i WAS told i could put up a new order in January/february 2018....to TRY once more
But im more than happy with my own repair/exchange of wires...so i could not be bothered..as it was also very expensive here in Norway .Around 650 dollars
I definetly do not agree on the Lemfoerder part of that statement If so..you might aswell just drop the Genuine Mercedes parts aswell..cause a lot of them are made in socalled "lowcost" countries aswell.Even the arms from Lemfoerder made in Turkey has Mercedes partsnumbers on the bushings. And alot of parts made FOR Mercedes Genuine..are made in Turkey,,greece,Latvia..and such.
