Congrats on your AMG purchase Lowman! I had a w210 about 6 years ago which was my daily driver, mint condition In a rare colour and it got rear ended at near 250k miles on the odometer. Was looking forward to that milestone but it wasnt to be the old girl was hit so hard it opened up the door gap on the A pillar to 1 inch. I was fine - just hated to see that car totalled.

They are great cars and an AMG will become collectable for sure - looking forward to updates and videos on that car

The code means that the Fender edges are rolled inwards on the front and rear wheels arches. Nothing wider
Thank you for info..and that confirms my findings.I can see that the arches are rolled both in the front and back..and i could not remember seeing that on a regular 210. Pretty cool though. But i sure miss the "widebody" look of a 036...

Very nice! I acquired a W210 E430 sport last year and have come to like it more and more. I notice your AMG is built with the same sport trim vs. the E55 trim. I like the darker wood.

Heeey Drew :) Thank you so much :) Ohh...did you ?that is awesome. me personally always had a softspot for the w210,but obviously the rust issues ruins it for the car itself in a way.I do think this is the "last" old school" mercedes in a way,,eventhough it is with some newer technology...its still the oldschool youngtimer in a way. And the ridequality is so nice i think. Well....the E50 is based on the e420 Avantgarde,so most of the interior hails from the Avantgarde ,which would be quite similar to the "Sport" i reckon.?

Thank you so much mate :) I apreaciate your kind words.Yes i agree..they are veeery nice cars...love the way they drive..and this car surprised me to be honest. So different than the ones ive driven earlier through my time working on these. But i really gotta sort out the bumpy rear end...im crossing my fingers its only the spheres. The ADS system seems to be in working order...ive only had "Adaptive Suspension" come up in the cluster once or twice at cold startup...but the ADS button works as it should..so..i"ll see :)

Hey people. Can someone please direct me in the right direction to which atf oil the 722.6 gearboxes would like. I know the spec is 236.10.. but the Wis says supposedly 236.14 superceedes the now hard to find 236.10. I have read some benzworld threads etc ..and to be honest there are so many opinions I am really not sure. Some actually says that the recommendation from Mercedes to use 236.14 on the 722.6 will not be good for the transmission.... so.. does any of you my friends have any experiences and inputs?🙂

236.10 is basically a full-synthetic Dexron III. I use Red Line D4 for the 722.6 (NAG-1) transmission. Any full-synthetic Dexron-compatible ATF with 7.0-7.5 viscosity should be equivalent.

236.14 is lower viscosity (~6.0) and is similar to Dexron-VI. You can use this in the 722.6 as well, although since it's thinner the adaptation values may be a little different. I don't think it will harm the transmission in any way. The Red Line equivalent is D6 ATF. I use D6 in the 722.9 seven-speed trans.

If you don't want to use Red Line, or cannot source it locally, there are other 236.10 equivalent fluids from other mfr's. Mobil-1 Muiti-Vehicle ATF would work:

Valvoline Import MVF is another equivalent:

Thank you so much for nice info Gixxer.
Do you have extensive experience with redline D4 ATF in the 722.6 trannies?Does it matter "what " type of 722.6 it is?mine is 722.627 by the way Do you know if there is any Castrol oils that meets these specs?236 10 and maybe even the 236 14?`have you ever used the 236 14 spec in any 722.6 transmission?

I've been using the D4 in 722.6 for almost 10 years now, in 2 different vehicles (W210 E60). No issues. Also shouldn't matter what fluid is currently in your transmission, although if you have a converter drain plug, drain everything.

I've never used 236.14 fluid in the 722.6, despite MB allowing it. My thought was, if MB engineered the transmission for ~7.5 viscosity fluid, that's what I'd prefer to use. But I really don't think it's a big deal either way, if you can completely replace all the fluid, reset adaptation, and let the TCU adapt to the different fluid type.

:seesaw:

really? have you experienced this oil in these transmissions over a long time..to observe potential "exessive "wear?or..any "negatives"?

Absolutely yes. Been using it for many years. Put about 100k miles on my w211 on this fluid now at 230k odd miles and trans still going strong. Have about 6x cars running this ATF successfully. I believe it is the same as the MB bottled fluid of this spec. Aka Mercedes bottle up Fuchs ATFs

It is made in Germany too

you were on it for sure :)
Thank you so much :) Its great to have this in the garage..but i sure miss my 500e...but i hope i will get some joy out of this one..and not headache :) Im pretty nervous of what is waiting around the corner with the "bumpy rear end"...im really hoping its the spheres..and not the ADS playing up.Im out of diagnostic tools to help me out there at the moment.I think i will need to get a Star.
Great car you have there!! Congratulation
Regarding the bumpy rear end: Change the spheres first! They are the same as on the .036 and get leaky in the inside when they age and loose the damping effect. Did that on a friends W210 a while ago and it worked wonders.
At about 100 Euros for two Febi spheres it can do no harm...

Thank you so much mister.im glad you like it. The spheres were replaced pretty much the day after i got the car.and luckily it cured the bumpy rear end.i did avtually get febi ones as these were available locally.but the price is way steeper than your price 😅I paid 180 euros a piece 😁😁. This car has got ads also..so it could have potentially been worse than just the spheres...even that the ads light is not on or anything..it would be typical my luck having issues with the ads
Anyways ..its drives fantastically now. I have uploaded an introduction video on my youtube channel already if you want to have a look 🙂

Great to hear, awesome!
Oh yes, ADS can make you crazy, don´t ask me how I know... But 180 Euros a piece is serious expensive!! They can be found for 50-60 Euros each in Germany.
Thank you very much for the video! You made my day

I liked the ADS system on the W140 S600. Electrically controlled valves in the front struts with rear self leveling hydro struts.
Its was as smooth and responsive, but without the complications, weight and issues associated with ABC.

How does the E50 ADS compare ? different characteristics ?

hehe yes i can see that it can make one crazy..but in many ways a pretty simple and easy system like "really"..i mean..its just some input signals,,compared to some actuators in a way..but yes..good thing it works here..and with the odometer reading on my car..i do not feel that i have to worry to much of it malfunctioning in the near future...so hopefully i will have some more experience and knowledge about the system when...or if it fails :) im already deep into studying as many tech specs as i can :) Im glad you like the video mister :) Thank you :)

heyyy mister. I have never driven any car with this system before actually.I know it is pretty much the same as can be found in the 140 and the 129....So in many ways a well proven system. And very "robust" i think. The function is fantastic.I was actually just out for a drive..and fiddled around with it ..seeing how it changes the car..and change the car it does. The car is miles way more responsive when the system is turned on.It feels like it does something to the steering also...but it might just be the tightening of the dampers that makes it feel like that. The suspension gets super crisp when its on....and not to a point where it feels like it does not have dampers..but it is just so lovingly firm. and when turned off...the car is still alot firmer than a "regular" w210....but with that touch of comfort you would like to see in a car like this.

Agree, the system is not that complicated. But in my (little) experience with ADS on a W201 16V and a R129 600SL, parts can be very expensive or even NLA . Or you get a NOS part that is broken from the long storage:cry::cry:
As long as ADS is working fine, it is awesome to drive! Especially on the R129 with ride height adjusted depending on the speed...

And the airmatic used in the W220 etc. can be way worse with dampers and air compressors breaking because of the age and cost 💰💰

In my opinion most ADS parts break because the car was stored to long and not driven! So you should be good with your system!!

At least in German there is a good factory brochure about the ADS that shows up on ebay from time to time. If that can be had in English or Norwegian too, I strongly recommend that for you if you do not already have it!

By the way:
I just watched your video of the Blaupunkt Bremen DAB radio. That was probably not the best idea:
So far the plan was to put the original MB Exquisit back in, but now I am very tempted to spend another 500 Euros and get a Bremen DAB😂
Great work(y)

Ads on a w201 ? Really ?
Thank you for tips regarding the litterature. And my pleasure teasing you with the Blaupunkt Bremen DAB ;) It is a fantastic headunit..and in my eyes...nothing would fit better in a 1980"s car..and even an early 90"s car.
Im struggling to find a suitable headunit for my w210 though...it has a Blaupunkt Cascade GPS headunit in it at the moment...But no connectivity in the sense of USB...which i really want in a car.So i am still looking into what to do there :)

Pardon, The 16V cars had a SLS suspension. My bad:doof:
SLS for all 4 wheels was optional for the "civilian" 16V and stock for the Evolutions. From what I have seen so far the SLS all around seems very similar to the ADS, except for the electronics.
The hydraulic components seem to work the same and using the ADS brochure helped me a lot on the 4-wheel SLS.
I feel a bit like the 4-wheel SLS is the "missing link" between the W126 with SLS in the rear and the R129,W140... with ADS if that makes any sense!

The MB Exquisit can be used with a adapter cable to connect an I-Pod, MP3 or similar (and put it in the glovebox or center console where it is invisible). Maybe that is an option for you...

ahh..i reckoned that was what you meant. :) You are definetly correct .The ADS and SLS is in many ways similar..but i would say the only reason why it is similar..is because of them "first" deciding on using the SLS system on an ADS car...The ADS function up front has not much to do with the SLS function in the rear..in a way. What i mean is that the front ADS shocks have built in solenoids in them..and is purely an electric activated shock. The rears however is there they combined new with old..and basically connected the electric part of the ADS in line with the allready excisting SLS shock setup :)
hm...thanx for info on the MB exquisit...ill see what i can find To bad really..as i kinda like the headunits thats in the car.It seems that the one i have in the car have been in the car for a loooong time..so it is period" correct" in a way...But i am really missing the USB connectivity. :)

Hey people
A little update on the silverwolf
Been cleaning..detailing and giving the radiator pack a good check.clean the ac condenser and radiator for leaves and crap.most because i had to raise the radiator abit to replace the one rusty transmission oil cooling line that goes alongside bottom of the radiator.
I hope you like the pics my friends 🙂

Guess you need some bees wax on your lines as prevention.
yeah ..i will treat this ..and some other areas with mercedes cavity wax..or engine bay wax.But...the funny thing is..that this pipe is the only one rusted..and i remember from earlier on in my "career"..that it is often "this" particular pipe that is rusting..and nothing else. One thing i noticed is that this pipe is the only one that is not "silvery" finish..like the other pipe connected to the radiator...so i am thinkin it might be something with the paint its coated with/in....

👏

Yes, the OCD with this one runs deep. As if we ever had any doubt ;) Excellent work.

Honestly lowman, the 210 has always been on my 'list'. One of my spoiled brat friends in High School had parents that would let him take their newly acquired 1997 E320 (in 'Aspen Green Metallic/Tan Interior, if I remember correctly) out for 'fun runs', and we had a great time wringing out that M104 all over the Bay Area. That was until he goosed it a little too hard taking a left hand turn in the rain and kissed the outside rear tire against a curb bending some rear control arms. 🥴

Its a bit weird though, I remember riding around in that 210 having wistful memories of my grandparents 124 as a small kid. Now I own a 124, and wistfully remember my young adulthood in a 210! I guess we're never 100 pct happy, and that's just the way it is!

The amg sticker for this car and spec..is not available no more..so i got to fix what i got..the writing on the amg sticker is wearing off..so i got to preserve what is left..and the black sticker is coming loose..so i put some strong seethrough tape over it..so i can keep cleaning the box whenever i need to..without the writing and stickers coming off 😜😜

Surprised it uses an F8DC4, That's the same as F8DCO right ?
To be honest im not sure my friend.i haven't really dug into the specifics of the ignition system yet..what is supposed to be used..and what can be used
Any info would be apreaciated 🙂

Hey @lowman, not sure if it is still relevant.
But there is a German company that sells old radios incl. Becker and MB units and mods them to work with Bluetooth and/or uxiliary input:
CD Radios
Sorry for the delay!! I wanted to look it up again but somehow forgot about it.

Hey there.
Thank you so much for suggestion.I think ive seen this company?
But i have come to a solution..i have ordered a USB interface for the Becked Cascade headunit thats in the car..so i will come out of it alot cheaper..and to be honest..i quite like the look of the Becker Cascade..eventhough it is not 100 percent period correct...what i have figured is that it is from 2005....so ...but i think i will stay with this headunit at least for now :)
But thank you ..i will look more into that company :)

Hey lowman,
good to hear you found a nice solution!
The Cascade fits the W210s interior for sure (y) Smooth and clean

Hey people 🙃
Time for ignition system inspection..and fitment of a fresh set of Ngk's. The plugs in the car looks great..but new ones are always better..and i want to have every maintenance item checked out and replaced..so i know everything is at "zero" in a way 🤩Also the supressors or insulators looks great..as a matter of fact they seem to be all replaced at some point. All coils are also genuine to the car.same number and date code on all of them 🤩

Sounds like me - when I get a car that's new to me I pretty much replace all of the maintenance items so I've got a point of reference. Glad to know I"m not the only one who thinks this way...

Dan

More preventative maintenance done today.
I wanted to replace the crank sensor..just because .Old one worked perfectly..but a new one should be more reliable.
What i found..is..something i cannot grasp
The new sensor has pretty much alot more resistance in it than the old one..which really does not make any sense to me ?.Anyone wants to chime in...they are welcome 🙂Also..im not a huge fan of the new Bosch sensor beeing made in Romania 🤫
Im not sure..and maybe its a placebo effect..but i feel the cranking time was a tad improved/decreased after putting the new sensor in...as the cranking time with the old sensor ..always seemed to be just a tad too long ....
Anyways..here are some pics of sensors and measurements 🙂

Great Stuff!! #Lowmania4ever :wootrock:

What sonnax kit did you use any ref or part number please?

Is that a Febi conductor plate box I see? Any Country of Origin on the box?

based on the above pictures of the undercarriage, we know now that the firewall heat shielding is NLA because MB used the left over material on the next model's transmission area. :stickpoke:

Thank you so much.i don't have the partsnumber for the valve sleeves at the moment.but I found the conductor plate partsnumber and country of origin
The febi conductor plates are genuine Mercedes remanufactured units.you can see that the Mercedes partsnumber is ground off the plastic housing.
this the only reason I bought it..I felt lucky for this to be the case..that they are in fact genuine reboxed parts.😁
I'll get back to you with the rest of the partsnumber on the sonnax kits

Here is the partsnumbers from Sonnax
Overlap sleeve kit. This helps out flaring between gears..if this is an issue .My car did not have any particular flaring though..but i wanted to stay on top of the game..and inspect the valves..and even try to improve shift quality
I also installed a new pressure control spring.
These can often break on early 722.6..but upon install..i found the old spring to be perfectly intact..Though it looked abit crooked..not completely straight..so it might have been catching inside the valve housing. So i went along to replace it like planned 🙂

Here are pics of the two kits .These two kits does fit the early 722.6 only...so i guess from 1996..and maybe up to 1999..or something like that..at least it fits my 1997. Please check this before ordering these ,if you choose to do so :)
