Thanks for the video.

The passenger side air intake tube seems to be too high. Maybe it just needs a twist or some thing.

Those door catches look good.[emoji122]

Thank you for kind comment :)yes the passengers air inlet is abit higher ,,that is because of the cover connection behind the head light ,that is the old style ,,so I have to get a new style one :)

Looks like the wrong intake hose to me, or the wrong part behind the headlight? Something isn't correct... should look like the photos below.

hey people

Found out some stuff regarding the air inlet snorkle.
The rear cover on the headlight is not the "problem"..or is not even different on the right hand side compared to the lefthand side.
There was actually a connecting joint or "bit"...from the old inlet snorkle..still stuck on there..so i could take that off,so now its the same on each side:)Success:)

202.jpg

I was stupid enough to NOT change the hose from the SLS reservoar when i replaced the old reservoar for a new one..so here the other day ..i spotted a good ol leak..and i was able to make myself a new hose...and saw the opportunity to flush the whole system with brand new oil..once again :)

203.jpg

the hose was completely soaked in oil.
204.jpg

I also wanted to check the distributor caps..though they were replaced only 4 years ago..and 10000km..they were quite attacked with carbon deposits...unfortunatly i did not get a "before "photo..but i cleaned them off with this soft brush...and they were all good.
Anyways..i think i can spot some "cracks" in the rotor...marked in the red ring...hard to say..but one is "cracked"and the other one is totally fine...so hard to say if its just the "mold" that looks bad...

I also checked my ETA...and it seems that it is made in 2005....?but how come on my diagnostic it says "software 1992.....?can someone please verify what year my ETA is?

I also cleaned up all the friggin aftermarked stereo that was mounted.and i cleaned up both connectors on the battery..including freshening up the Can connector cable :)

No big blue ugly amplifier :)just tidy :)

And a couple of mood pictures of my two babies :)

Diagnostic software is reporting the year of the software in the E-GAS module. It cannot tell when the ETA was manufactured. The date code on the label is what you need to check, and yep, yours is a newer one so you can relax.

:relieved:

yeah i was about to take away the question..cause i figured that out after some thinking :)but thanx.....is it that written in stone that " a newer one cant be faulty".....?cause i still have some problems with mine...its like "cutting out"...like you turn all power off..and then it comes back on..and at some point the "abs"asr" did not receive can signal from LH and ETA....but i have cleaned up all can connector earth wires..and the battery connection...so now these days..im just driving around alot to see if it happens again.

No, it's not written in stone. A newer ETA can still cause problems if the internal potentiometers are worn. This is relatively rare, but not unheard of. Difficult to diagnose without swapping in another ETA!

can i ask you a question gsxr...
do you know of any parts from w129 600sl that fits the 92 500e ?

there is a 1994 model 600sl available for parts not far from where i live...

i think about brakes....suspension stuff...differential...rear beam...and so on...not electrical as that is self explenatory :)

Brakes will swap over (need the front LCA's too), but otherwise there isn't much useful from the R129. The differential is not the same either, it's a reinforced housing and there isn't any advantage to it (if it will fit at all, which I'm not sure about). Transmission bellhousing is different so you can't use the tranny either. But, it would be a nice donor in case you wanted to build a 7.4L M120 for your 500E...

:D :D

is the rear beam the same you know?

is the rear beam the same you know?
Pretty sure the rear subframe and axles are different. The 5 links should be the same but you probably wouldn't want used ones. Rear sway bar is probably narrower.

abit of a sad update today....

my car has quit running..and the fault that has been appearing some times..is now permanent.
it jerked/quit/studdered one time today...and 10 seconds later..the car died out...could not start it...i got to check some stuff after i got to roll it in to a parking lot...and the fuel pump does not run...and the relay is hot.obviously there will be some heat in the relay .

the other thing i got to check ...as i got the car to drive soon after it died the first time...
it stopped once more after a drive of about 3min....and then it just stopped...tried to start...no start...but it cranks..

there is no clicking in the fuel pump relay.
got a multimeter...the fuel pump relay receives power on 86 and 85 terminal..as it should...
finally got to hook up a tester..and the tester cannot get connection to the LH unit...says check connections..and try again..and i do not get connection with the LH unit...
i get to read the fault memory on the ETA...og EA...and it says no can reception from LH unit...(ive had that fault before when it didnt want to start one morning..)

all fuses in the BM module is new..and well in good order..

does someone know what CAN resistance there is supposed to be in the Can circuit in the modules....all 3 of them..

ive done some quick searches..and found a thread here and there which lead me in the direction of the BM module..even though the fuses are allright..and got power on them...

suggestions?

The fuel pump relay gets a signal from the LH module. If the relay is not engaging, something's wrong with the LH module (or possibly BM). What happens if you force the fuel pump relay on? Do the pumps run normally?

:scratchchin:

today..i have borrowed a lh unit and a BM module...either of them worked or got the car started.

I did try to run the fuel pumps by putting power to the 30 and 87 pin on the relay holder..and the pump started..and tried to crank the car..the car did not start even if the pumps ran.
The BM module i borrowed ...was a 009 545 91 32...and has just 3 fuses in it..and not 4 like the one in my car,
I have checked that there is voltage over every fuse...but can it still be toast?as it really seems to be a power issue to the LH unit..as the ABS/ASR module has a fault that says "no can reception from LH unit"..

the one thing i think is weird..is that when i measure the CAN circuit in the Egas module..it is 11k ohms..and aprox 6 k ohms in the ABS/ASR module..but in the LH unit..there is what it supposed to be..around 112..120 Ohms.....

does this ring a bell in someones head?

does someone have a good working order EZL for sale ...and maybe Egas..and LH unit?
as i actually have ordered a BM module from somewhere on ebay.
im thinking on just getting some modules..and

Another thing...where excactly does the CAN power feed enter the Can box?my issues really has to be a power to module issue..as i still cant get contact with either egas or Lh unit...

hey people
new update.
ive been fortunate enough to borrow two lh modules..and two bm modules.from two friends -
Either one of the changes made the car start.

Ive now started fault finding GRANDE..and up til now..it seems that there is a power issue from the bm module two the LH unit..as far as i can see on the wiring diagram..there is a Z connection on the positive wire from BM module..that serves both fuel pump , LH module and another one i cant remember at the moment...with positive power...and on that particular pin on my LH connection..the test lamp just glows..meaning there has to be some kind of power loss somewhere.

i also just have 2 volts on the pin 4 in the 38 pin connector.thats not right i guess..?
on pin 6 in the 38 pin connector..i dont have any power at all..and as i can see the wiring diagram..its supposed to have 12 volts there aswell..

apreaciate any input.though im really on fire on this problem.and gotten the car into its "winterstorage" room..so i can work on it whenever i feel to...so thats kinda relaxing :)

A bit OT..
In that picture which is taken from the trunk of your car seems that you have unopened set of velour floor mats, or am I seeing correct? Do you really have new velour floor mat kit? :wow: If it's really, where did you get it? I've tried to search mats for long time and dealer says that they are NLA.

Really nice car you have, hope you get her fixed!

jnes - maybe these are close to your needs:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1988-1995-M...114751?hash=item20ce3ddeff&vxp=mtr&rmvSB=true
They came up in here: http://www.sportslinkup.com/shop/0-Mercedes-W124-velour-floor-1-GALLERY.html

I recall you were looking for Limited stainless door sills too, I will soon part with a refurbished set. :-)

:offtopic: yes, I'm sorry, Stefan.

I bought a nice set of mats from UK supplier (Classic mercedes mats). Only minor fault is that front mats don't have correct metal Mercedes-Benz emblem. :(
Arnt, yes you remember correct I'm looking for Limited door sills.. :-P

jnes : thank you for kind words..its a "rough" time om going through...i really do not like having this kind of trouble with my car.though it isnt a big deal as it sits in a very good storage room at work..and i can work on it wheneever i want to.but i cant rap my head around the measurments im finding at the moment..maybe im gonna just wait for a new BM module..and maybe a new LH unit...and even a EZL unit..and try that...rather than split the entire wiring loom to the ECU "s...

but ..the mats...they are unfortunatly not velour mats..they are the more corse mats..do not know what they are called in english..but still...they are new factory ones..so its better than the velour mats that are in the car as they are not mint :)

Well people :)

good news...at least for me...but the fault on the car....the "crank only no start" issue..."hiccup issue" is solved :)

I will reveal later, and im going to out a video where i explain what was wrong with the car :)Hold on :)

hey again :)
Here is my little video of my car finally running again..and some explanation of what was actually wrong with it :)

im soooo happy now :)

hope you like it as much as i did like finding the fault :)

thank you veeery much Mr :)
im super duper glad too that i found out what was wrong with the BlackBeauty :)

feel free to share the video on sites if there is someone havin trouble with their car.As i think there is far to few videos of w124 500e related stuff on youtube..appart from the ordinaryusual "slideshow videos".. :)which tends to get boring after youve seen em 100 times.hehe

Good diagnosis! And funny video, can understand how it feels to find such an fault...

hey there

thank you so much for kind words :)
yes ,there aint much that can compare to the feeling when finding the needle in the heeyyystack :)

Here is another video, where i elaborate abit what the issue was...short explanation what i did to find the fault..and abit on how i fixed it :)

hope you like :)

Here is an update..and finally ..no diagnostics this time :)
Found this armrest...with storage room /phone holder inside.Been looking along time for one of theese..in the right color..as many of them are the beige or light grey ones..so when this came up..i bought it withouth even blinking :)
So im pretty happy with this :)

Its abit worn on one of the corners..but i consider it soullike wear marks:)...though i will try and freshen it up...or maybe retrim the upper part.

Before and after cleaning the inside :)

I also was bored here the other day.And to make my OCD happy..i found out that i had to freshen up some small details:)

One of them were the rubber "seals" in front under the bonnet...

54.jpg

And cleaned :)
55.jpg

The next one..was that my original grill was abit tired looking..or the finish was very matt after years of no attention at all.
So i decided to give eeevery little grillhole a proper shine and give it some smoother finish .can you spot the difference?i almost cant..but in some way i can too :)

56.jpg

Done :)

I love your attention to detail.... defenately OCD level ;)

hey dude :)
hehehe Thank you so much :)

hehe yes the ocd level peaks here..its getting worse..but oh myyy how much fun it is :)
Always nice to bring life to the small details as well :)

hey people :)
Ive taken some photos alongside the faultfinding on my 1992 500e.
And i thought id share it with you guys..
ill try and explain every picture withouth overdoing just that :)
The sad ,,but happy day when i got a tow truck to pick up my blackbeauty :)was a weird feeling driving and see my car up on that truck :)

76.jpg

The front end of the 124 e500e is just sooooo friggin badass looking!love it :)
77.jpg

Back where i work...i started pulling out the whole can box..and getting ready to measure the car up and down...back and forth..

78.jpg
79.jpg
80.jpg

This was the state of my BM module. The pin had nothing to do with any engine managment issues...but i had to fix it even though i have ordered myself a spare BM module.

81.jpg

Here you can see where i point..that there is cracks in the solder point..

82.jpg

Heated it up and soldered them back on

83.jpg

Here is my new Z point.Soldered...and soldering it to the pin 12 on the BM module connector

84.jpg
85.jpg
86.jpg
87.jpg

Soldering it on to the connector pin 26 on the LH connector(same row of pins as the CAN connector is located
88.jpg

If you take a close look down there..you can see i route the new wiring alongside the original wiring. The old wiring is just "taped up"..and just sitting there...just in case i find out i want to open the wiring loom at a later point. As explained earlier..i did measure the old wiring and Z point to make shure there is no danger for it to short out something..and that there is no power in the remaining wires/old wiring which i replaced.( Z point wiring)

89.jpg

New power wire to the Diagnostic socket aswell...routed down the same route as the original wiring.
90.jpg

Mounted everything back in there..and voila.work done :)

91.jpg
92.jpg

And a little mood picture of the blackbeauty on its "first drive out of the storage room" after beeing to the doctor;) and out in open air :)
93.jpg

Thank you for having a look :)

Truly beautiful and clean! I hope that one day under my 500E hood there will be also such beauty looking back :) I have quite a lot to do there.

How long is your E500 driving season in Norge? I have from April to October max here in Estonia. Our road maintenance still use salt on winter time and it just kills the vehicle body:doh:
