I agree with Klink... if you want to use those wheels, I'd not add spacers... bolt them up as-is, with a 245/40 tire.

:tumble:

but when it comes to changing the offset...it has something to it...
i do not know on the mercedes..but to change the track on a car..makes it handle better in corners and more stable at speed..i find that on my Focus Rs ..thoug it is a very different car...ive widend that by 8 on the offsett on rims..and you can tell a difference in both cornering abbility..and high speed stability.

but on the merc that is...for me..its more about the astetics of it..looks alot better when the wheels stick out just a tad more than just tucked in under there...but like i said..it will not be just for the sake of it...
but of course the wheels will be put on and see how it looks..and performs..and then i will see if i make any changes, and this is where my question comes to play..as i wanted to know if anyone have experimented with how far you can go before it affecting the car in a negative way..both in the looks department and performance department :)

thank you for all replys.its almost time for a group hug :)

Another option: After driving with the new wheels/tires a while, try installing spacers and see what you think of the difference. If you don't like them, just remove the spacers! Easy enough to test out. I think you can use 10-20mm spacers up front, and up to 20-30mm (!) in the rear, for that particular wheel/tire combo. I assume you are aware of the potential headaches with hubcentric spacers interfering with the front grease/dust caps, etc...

well..i am now..and you are right..there usually is a potential "problem" when it comes to the dust caps..
When i worked at MErcedes...there was sometimes these taxi drivers..who put on non standard wheels...and they sometimes just ditched the dust caps...very clever you might say

but yeah..ill see how it goes :)

Well Gixxer, your version was nicer and way more constructive, but just to further stir the pot :stirthepot:
that's kind of the first part of my rant. Thanks for coming back and saying it better than I did...

here are a couple of pics of the wheels.just think they look so good in the flesh :)

And im really thinkin of something regarding the fact that im having two sets of the e500 emblems :)

Here is a little pic series of when i put on the missing clip on the intake air temp sensor.
Really dont think i have to explain every pic....so...its just to show what it took to put it on :)

Clip and sensor together for the first time ;)

So now,the sensor sits firm and tight on the rear cover on the headlight "airbox".

I just noticed a minor safety hazard under your hood. I am assuming that it is only minor for you, because in your part of the world it probably does not get hot enough to rise to the level of being a more significant hazard.

The hazard is this:
Notice the black plastic ornamental trim ring around the alarm horn. This is in the vertical center on the right side of the photo above. Those were put on the V8 124 cars simply to make the alarm horn a little less unattractive and/or noticeable against the background of black plastic that permeates the under-hood view. It's a little bit of MB overkill that this era is famous for, and the kind of thing that we usually like about it. The lesser cylindered vehicles had the horn in a somewhat hidden place just below the fender/inner fender union, hence usually had no such trim ring on them.

The bad thing, as was also common in that era, is that the plastic material chosen wasn't always fully up to the job. In hot climates, that plastic ring tends to deform, expand, and at some point, fall off of the alarm horn.

They sometimes landed right on top of the nice hot auxiliary fan pre-resistor.

If you were lucky, only smoke and odor ensued. If you were unlucky, you got fire to go with your smoke and odor. Bad juju, to be sure.

I don't know about other parts of the world, but in the USA, there was actually a campaign that involved removing that ornamental ring, along with some other modifications. Those other things did more harm than good, in my opinion, but you definitely want to get that trim ring out of there. If you just can't stand the way that horn looks afterwards, you can take advice from Mick and just paint it black...

ohhh...hm...interesting fact right there .thanx :)

well...where i live...i dont think thats gonna be a problem ,as there aint that hot in Norway...or at least...not for longer period of time.
But ill definetly check it out...and at least make shure its proper stuck on there.
:)
I thought about removing the whole alarm horn,as i have disconnected it for the time beeing,as something was makin the alarm go off when i unlocked the car on the drivers side...and just as i was opening the door..the alarm would go...tried to switch over the door locks(the whole tumbler in the door..with the one on the passenger side),,,did not cure it...so i got tired of trying to figure that one out..so for now..the alarm is disconnected.
I read something about that even the Becker radio beeing NOT there...could actually stir up the alarm system...as it is connected together somehow...

any views on that?

I vote for taking that horn off or the ring at least.

It's the right thing to do, Louie. They are a menace. Most people aren't familiar with them because most technicians removed them on sight...

Well after you walked me thru that resistor, and the rewire I had considered using the electrics from the horn to wire up a cpu fan on the resistor from an old PC.

If I am remembering correctly (and I may not be), you can not cross install the door lock tumblers left to right as a test of the microswitches. I think the microswitches work in "reverse" to match the turning direction of lock/unlock on each side of the car...

do they really?
well i did switch em over anyways..and it worked and failed in the excact same way as it did in the first place..so i figured out it was most likely NOT the microswitches...but i dont know...
but for now ,i am happy with it disconnected :)

shipohoi.
Just wanted to post this..a bit of a different one this time :)

Inector leak on a 2008 Mercedes Vito Diesel .

hahahaha..yeah maybe :)
i friggin "hate" diesels.they are unfortunatley not designed to run as clean as the "laws" want them to run.
i mean...Egr systems...wtf.......exhaust is supposed to go out the engine ONCE...not twice.hehe...and DPF....another stupid system..

no man..give me a gasoline gussler :)

It's really hard to beat the elegant business-like look of those AMG Monos on most MBs. Love your Focus, too! Especially with those bitchin' OZ's :hearts:

Two awesome cars you have there. I have wanted for a long time to have a ride, or better yet some time at the wheel of a rally car. Very nice alter ego to the 036.

The new wheels look great! What is the part number?

This is a little confusing because this same wheel has been available under 4 different part numbers:

lowman's video is showing the wheel with the MB part# HWA 129 401 01 02, which may also be found as a "vendor sourced" number
B6 6 03 1007

This wheel is also shown as "optional with" the MB part# HWA 210 401 01 02, which likewise, may be also available with the "vendor sourced" number B6 6 03 1000

Thank you Klink. I searched for part numbers for a staggered set and found the following:
Front
245 40 ZR18 on 8J X 18 H2 ET31 HWA 129 401 01 02 ( Hollander 560- 65239 ) AMG Monobloc II
Rear
275 35 ZR18 on 9J X 18 H2 ET35 HWA 210 401 02 02 ( Hollander 560-65240 ) AMG Monobloc II

I haven't checked with my dealer or any other source yet, but do you know off the top of your head if they are even available in the States?

B66031007 in USA is $915 MSRP. That's crazy dough...

The staggered fitment you describe above is, I believe, the factory W210 E55 AMG wheel setup. Should be able to find a set of those for ±$1k used in nice shape.

 :klink:

True that! It was also a USA 129 "Sport" package staggered fittment starting 1996-ish...

Awesome cars Lowman! A little sacrilegious on this forum perhaps. If the second sentence in this paragraph is more important than the first, they could likely be interchanged.
Now hold on just a tick and let's back it up to the first page... have I gone mad, or is that MAF sans mesh screen??

The screen is actually there smooth and striate the airflow, as much as much as as to protect the fragile sensing element from debris, or so they told us. I'd install the screen. If you don't have one, they aren't cheap, but the screen and its retaining snap ring are still available from MB.

Awesome cars you had! The escorts rs cosworth is also one of my all time favourites!

hey man

thank you so much:) yeah the EscortCosworth is one of my all time favourites aswell.and miss that car..was awesome. It was around the 500hp mark, and the stopping power from those 380mm AP 6 pot TRACK calipers..where just ridiciously good :)
