Here are some comparison shots of brand-new, unused fan clutches for M119 and M117 models. The current production E500E fan clutches continue to be made by Horton/Sachs.
The MB part number for the E500E and 400E/E420 fan clutch is: 119 200 01 22
The MB part number for the late M117 (5.6L) fan clutch is: 116 200 11 22
The current MB list price for a fan clutch for the .036 is: $885.00 (March, 2016)
The current MB list price for a fan clutch for the 560SEL/SEC is: $660.00 (March, 2016)
Please see below individual and close-up photos of these fan clutches, individually and together. Note that the MB fan clutch is made in Germany. The "quality aftermarket" Behr unit, is made in China. I took a close-up photo to show that the M117 fan clutch sealed ball-bearing has an "NGK" marking on it.
As you can see, both of the clutches are of an operationally similar, however differently executed, concept. The M103 and M104 engines use a different clutch design, of which I will post in a separate, follow-up.
I also have two used examples of an original 500E (1992) and E500 (1994) OE factory MB fan clutch, which I will also post in a later follow-up.
GSXR has additional M119 fan clutch photos and related notes/documentation, at this location.
Cheers,
Gerry
