Microswitch for vanity mirror illumination?

Hi,

I dismantled vanity mirror to see what is wrong and why there is no illumination when opening the mirror cover. Turned out that microswitch is dead. I have tried to search replacement part with no luck. I don't know how common this switch failure is and I'd like to fix this instead of search new used sunvisors since I think those switches can also fail anytime.

Microswitch is made by Cherry. DB1 6A 250V rating. I think that exact model is DB1AD3AA (actuator is different but It can be reused from old one) Also mounting pins are not necessary and can be replaced double side adhesive tape. Pics attached

Has anyone replaced this microswitch or even have spares available?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

I've never experienced a microswitch failure. Usually the visor pivot (ball/socket) fails, or the mirror hinge detent fails where the lid will not remain up when opened.

More importantly, how were you able to disassemble the mirror to access the switch, without breaking anything?! Usually the plastic mirror components are brittle and shatter into a million pieces when you try to take anything apart!

It was pretty easy. I thought that this is very common job. There were several videos in youtube how to remove/replace mirror. They might not be for W124 but the basic principle is the same
Actually I wasn't even very gentle when trying to figure out how to remove mirror cover. I tried to remove at first the whole frame but then figured out that only the mirror part will snap out. Carefully just press the plastic parts with flat screwdrivers which hold the mirror unit in sun visor frame and lift it up. Here is some photos when mirror/and circuit board is removed.

This cover/mirror part seems very solid and good condition. Maybe cold climate could help plastic parts to remain.

To remove circuit board from the frame some plastic studs need to be drilled off.

Hope this helps :beerchug:

I had to buy 2 new mirrors for my R129 because the covers had broken off
I am sure I just put the old ones in the new boxes and stuck them in the garage
Let me have a look tommorrow and put a photograph up
You can have them for the cost of the postage if they are what you need
I am in the UK mind so postage may be expensive

Sorry
I got the mirrors out to photograph and realised they are only the front cover and mirror
The back plate with the electrics was my original and stayed in the visor
( Which makes what they charge all the more shocking )
Very sorry about that

I did the same last night and realised the switch is not part of the vanity bit.

I would think any switch with a similar spec. and footprint will do the job.

To my understanding is that microswitch easily available, though with various type of terminals. If you chose a switch with 3 terminals you just cut off the 3rd pin and use the remaining two, and reuse the actuator pivot from the old switch.

I'm still confused how did you find that microswitch so easily. I think I've been googling many nights and send emails for various vendors with no luck..:gsxrepc:

Thanks, I'll definetly try even the shipping costs are insane to here.

Thanks Arnt!! :arnt:
