New wheels for the summer?

I'm considering "new" wheels for this season. Wheels are Lorinser RS90 8.5x18 et18, a perfect fit for the 500E. I'll have them refinished either diamond cut or painted silver with polished lips. What do you guys think?

I have run a similar wheel (DS-90) on my 560SEC, 16x8", ET11, for the past 15+ years. It's a nice wheel and a nice alternative to the standard AMG monoblock/etc. wheels, Evos, etc.

Cheers,
Gerry

I like them and have a similar Lorinser on one of my 036s. As Gerry said, a nice alternative to the monoblock. I personally like silver painted vs. diamond cut.

I like them but the chicks won't be able to see your big brakes.

:p No problem, I got the stock brakes. At one point I did purchase the Brembo brakes and installed new original late type LCAs. But not being able to run original wheels stopped me from completing the project. So I sold the Brembos and purchased a new set of 16 inch original wheels instead :). I believe in originality for these cars as they get older.

I love the color of your car.

LORINSER RS90 wheels are a great looking option for aftermarket wheels on our E500/500E vehicles. If you have a refinishing shop with the proper CNC machine to duplicate the original "diamond cut" finish on the faces, go for it, I am sure you will be pleased with the end result. The RS90 wheels came originally with three different finishes on each wheel:

- Silver painted core
- Concentric diamond cut for the faces
- High-shine machined lips (same as diamond cut, but shallower cut at a much higher speed)

Please share some pictures of your wheels once installed.

Nice looking new garage for your 500E, wish I could have the space to built one at home and keep my cars close to me!

I have the OTIS RAD bolts on my C126 Lorinser 17x8.25. I have no issue with them, very hard steel. Quite an effort to trim a few threads off for the Parking break clearance for the rears. But I have had 5 years of faithful usage so far, and would but them again. Note these are not the same as you pictured....Mine are a offering from OTIS.

Thanks. I'm thinking it would be nice to have long heads so that top of bolt would flush with surface of rim.

R.A.D. bolts appear to be good quality stuff, allegedly made in Germany. I have a few sets for certain wheels that require non-standard bolts.

As always, be careful to match the proper seat (cone, R12 ball, or R14 ball) needed for your wheels, along with the appropriate length. Excess length causes problems with the rear parking brake mechanism.

Yes, I’m aware of that. The Lorinser wheels take conical M12 bolts, while original and most AMG wheels for our cars take M12 ball.
