oil dipstick

This e500 ltd coming from Japan has a red handle oil dipstick. Strange enough and even more confusing there is a mark on it "11902".
Ok, i thought that this is for an m119 engine...

I made an oil change and after puting 8liters the dipstick was still dry. I checked the oil level with a grey handle normal m119 dipstick (coming from my other 500e, euro, 1991). The oil level was ok.

Indeed, there is a considerable difference between the lenght of the dipsticks.

In addition to that the japanese car has no oil cooler.

Do you think that this is normal to put 9-10 liters in a japanese car or it has a wrong (maybe m120) oil dipstick?

I think the red handle dipstick may be from a late M119.98x engine. Use the correct dipstick for the engine!

And no, 9-10 quarts is NOT normal - do not overfill the crankcase. After replacing the oil filter & draining the oil, it should take 8 quarts/liters only. With the correct dipstick, the level should be right in the middle of the MIN and MAX markings. Do not fill to "MAX". If the level is above MAX with the correct/gray dipstick, drain oil out until the level is correct.

Thanks!
Yes, i have found in your website the related doc and i read the relevant threads here.
I put only 8l, not more.
However i drained at least 9, maybe 10liters as used oil.... i do not how how long the japanese guys were changing the oil with this late 119.980 dipstick....

I went to mercedes to buy a new dipstick. Epc says 1020100272 part num. However, it also says that it is for 980 engine code...
we have checked with my 91' 500e vin number and epc gives the same part numb.
do you think that the grey handle oil dipstick is non available and mercedes is only offering this red handle for late m119?

I swear, all I did was pull it once. Should I see a doctor?

(Thanks for posting the part number! Just ordered a replacement from mboemparts.com.)

Hi,

I have a similar issue with my 1994 Limited from Japan. The (what I assume) original grey dipstick is different from the new one ordered at Mercedes (based on Vin number), part nr. A 102 010 04 72.

The car used to be filled based on the old one, with levels much higher than the new one. The level in between on the old dipstick is the same as the max of the new one.

So the question is, which one is correct?

Part number 102-010-04-72 is WRONG. The dipstick with green handle is WRONG. Your original gray dipstick is correct, and the oil levels are correct (higher on gray, vs the greenie).

Per the EPC (screenshot below), the correct part number is 102-010-02-72. This appears to be NLA and has been superceded to 102-010-10-72.

Return the green dipstick and try the #10 instead.

I just checked PN 102-010-0272 and it also references to the same dipstick used in W201 2.3? Can anyone confirm? I'm also looking for an oil dipstick for my 1992 M119. Thanks.
