Hello,
My name is Michel, very active (moderator) on the Dutch forum mercedesforum.nl but here and the 500ectacy forum are more 500 series.

I'am from Holland and drive my 500e (E60 engine sinds august 2010) for almost 3 years and never gonna sell it.
I made a poor bad running 500e to a almost fully loaded one, we are still busy with the car.

Nice looking car, tell us more about what you have done to it.

Its a loooonnnggg story but i will try to expain what we did so far (sorry for the bad english)

We started with a complete revision of the transmission
The engine was running bad due to a to long distribution chain, we replaced it incl all parts
We put in a new engine wiring (all 500's have the same problem with the organic material)
Revised the engineheads and Diff
We have a spare engine when something goes realy wrong
DTM breaking set
Complete repaind in and outsite color 199
Complete anti rust treatment, 2 new fenders they where to far eaten by rust
Replaced stock exhaust completely for Eisenmann open system for better airflow
Removed KAT's to get better airflow
K&N airfilters
I have several sets of wheels (19"MAE (now on the car), 19" dubble Spooks (for sale with good tires Potenza), 18"Carlssons, 17" EVO's, and the 16"stock wheels)
Complete Lorinser suspention
Renewed all parts of the leveling system on the rearax
Sunscreen electric on the rearwindow
Becker Cascade pro
Sportline steer with 3 pieces of wood
Park Distance Control on the front and back
Reiserechner
extra claxon to pass vehicles in the mountens (passeerhoorn)

and so on, and so on its to much I have a meetingcard in Dutch of 2 pages options standard and added ones.

Bought a extra feature, an automatic light adapting rearview mirror.

One step closer to a fully loaded car. :e500launch:

Ordered 2 new rear shocks, next week we will put them on. After 18 years they need replacement, i am realy curious about the difference with the new shocks.

Aki said:
How much shocks cost? Here in Finland 400€/piece.
For p/n 124-320-42-13:

Current list price in USA is $530 USD, lowest discount price I could find is parts.com at $364 USD each (plus shipping). Definitely not cheap...

Best price with 20% off = 409 euro each including tax en sending.

Also ordered 4 new door strips 38 euro each, I mean the strips on the outsite where the window slides in the door. They where bended and ugly during the 18 years.

Hello, Michel. Great to see another enthusiastic owner taking good care of this wonderful MB. That is pretty much how I feel too. I cannot find (think of) a replacement. Because of the age of these cars, parts need replacement and the car needs tender loving care. w/ smiles Jimmy

Are there any pics of changing a 5.0 M119 into a 6.0. We have changed the stroke and bore on a donor engine. We have the right parts already including ECU.

Do we mis anything?

Bore the block & clearance for longer stroke, add modified crank with longer stroke, different rods, pistons, rings, head gaskets, replace EPROM chip in ECU... that's the basics. AMG also port-matched the intake manifold & heads, and possibly ported / polished the intake ports on the heads. They also used different camshafts ($$$$) but those aren't required, although they will add 10-20hp or so compared to the 5L cams (based on RENNtech's power claims for their 6L conversion with/without the 6L cams).

:postpics:

Hi Michel.

You are putting a lot of enthusiasm into your car, that's nice. Exciting with your planned 6.0 swap. :burnout:

I was looking closely on your switchboard and it seems that switch no.4 from left is for the antenna? Do you have any part number on that?

And what is switch no.6 from left?

Regards

I believe the function of the switches, from left to right, is as follows:

- Rear window defroster
- Rear seat headrest release
- Rear sun shade up/down
- Antenna up/down adjust
- Hazard flasher
- Autobahn horn (high/low tone switch)
- Door locking control switch
- ASR traction control (snow) switch
- Interior door light control switch

The autobahn horn switch controls the two types of horns installed on the car. One has a high tone, the other a lower, "normal" tone. I have this option on my US-spec 560SEC believe it or not.

The adjustable antenna is something you don't see very often. I also have this on my 560SEC but it was phased out on the US 560SECs for the 1990 or 1991 model year, I believe. I don't think I've seen it on any US MB after that time frame and I didn't know that MB was still offering it as an option on non-US cars after that time.

Very cool !! :deniro:

Cheers,
Gerry

Wow - altering the horn loudness, that's special! Never seen that before, I guess it's another German speciality for safe autobahn driving.

I should really like to have the antenna switch. It is annoying that the antenna goes up as soon as the CD-player is used. The 560 SEC are getting more and more famous here in Norway, so I guess I'll manage to find the P/N and order it.

Cheers

Thank Gerry

The switch to lock the doors is now replaced by a (W140) switch to turn on/off the Park Distance Control on the front I had to offer one to make places for the PDC one.

The horn low and high is made to give a claxon before U turns in the mountains to alarm upcomming trafic.

The sitch for the antenne is for sale at any dealer in Europe.

ps my wheels are for sale 19" 8.5J ET35 245-40-19 Dunlop

Where was the door lock switch originally located? I've seen them in several places such as where you have it or in the shifter console instead of the speaker fader control. From which year was this switch aviable on the 124s?

Hi.

I think the door lock switch became standard with the face-lift at autumn '93. They are mostly placed in the shifter console as you describe.

That would be a great mod to replace the alarm LED blank that's in my car now. Perhaps something to do this winter.

Does anyone know what type of logic is required to activate the door locks at the touch of the button? Anyone done this mod before?

Cheers,
Gerry

I haven't done it before, but it's on my lengthy "to do" project list. Be careful which lock switch you buy... the correct one is p/n 202-820-40-10, which has a red LED indicator which I believe can still be used in place of the original alarm LED, while adding the lock/unlock function separately.

Given the sheer number of 124s that you have, that must be quite some list.

I keep having the little devil on my shoulder poking me, telling me to buy you a 300SDL, 350SD rod-bender or a 560SEC, and ship it to your place, just to spice up your life a little bit and give you some diversity ...

:duck:

:burnout:

Cheers,
Gerry

I'm running out of room fast. I don't know where I'd put a W126. A 1993 300D 5-speed just rolled off a car carrier at my house last night... but this one technically isn't mine, it will be my nephew's first car in a couple of months. It's just here temporarily. In theory.

Original headlight are back (sorry poor picture, bad weather and very dirty car :omg: )

Enough teasing! What's under the hood? Fill us in on the gory 6.0L details, man!

:D :D

Yes, and please provide some information about the exhaust system, and how it was created/routed to both sides of the rear of the car. Thanks !

For the exhaust i bought a complete system of Eisenmann (one of the best exhaust systems for MB and BMW). The system excisted of 2 middle mufflers and 2 end mufflers 80mm round used on de SL65 and E60 M5 also available are 120mm oval but I like round more. At the garage they are great with welding and making it custom fit, we have to remove the housing of the spare tire to make space for the right end muffler. We also removed the kathalisks and ready it is with at least 15bhp more.

The enige was made out of a spare engine wich i bought over a year ago in Germany. In all this time my friend who works at a engine rebuild company did it in spare time and evening hours to reduce the costs. I am not technical enough but bore and stroke are bigger with fitting pistons etc, chip in ecu, gasgets and all stuff to make it a 6.0 liter engine and even important to let it run. It has been tested by The Dutch RDW so it is officialy a 6.0 liter on paper. The old engine is back to the rebuild company where they make it as new in a few years so we have a spare 100% brand new engine.
The only problem is that my friend doesn't take pictures he is to moddest, I am going next month to his company to take pics myself of the rebuilding of the M119 engine.

Today i did pollish all the chrome with Belgom thats great stuff.

Very nice, Michel! Just curious, where did you obtain the 6.0L EPROM chip for the LH module? Also, how is the power compared to stock? I've never driven a 6.0 - yet...

:D

l bouhgt a damaged 6.0l engine (there was a hole in the engine at the bottum) in Germany from a total loss E60 or SL60. It a connection of my friend, I payed 1500 euro for it. The eprom chip is a smal silver microchip don't ask me what it does.

The power/torque is inmence, where now looking at a 3.06 LSD diff. to compleet the yob and to go though the 5 seconds barrier 0-100.

We made a fotoshoot for a charity program with a pink W212 brand new, my W124 and the fullest W211 ever of MBenzNL. This W211 is sick, from keyless go to distronic
