Hey guys, I have a 1992 Euro-spec 300CE AMG Coupe with a 3.4L engine and a euro-only option(so I'm told) 5-speed auto transmission with 103k KM, runs great. I will be pulling the engine and the transmission soon and looking to gauge what this package is worth.

Let's keep this discussion on price opinions only. I will post about my project details soon.

Your dealing with such a rare item, its hard to gage the value. If neither needs reconditioning, then of course it would be worth more. But I wouldn't even go down the route your going. Pull it, clean it up, document it and take plenty of pictures. Put it on BaT and see where it goes. BaT buyers have more money than common sense so its the place to sell your motor.

BaT was my plan. Let's see how it goes.

I'm heavily modifying the car. M275 V12 BiTurbo drivetrain out of a 65. I already bought a 2008 SL65 that will be the donor car.
Any reason you are taking on this project with a fairly rare car as a starting point? Wouldn’t any regular M103 or M104 equipped car also work for your purpose? Just wondering, since what you have seems like such a neat car in its own right. In any case, best of luck with the project!

Thanks, Tim. I appreciate the support! I'm not a purist, and I build my cars in a very specific way for my own reasons. I totally understand how most in this community would view my mission, but we are all here for a very limited amount of time, so let's all build our cars like we want them and I liked the idea of starting my project with a real AMG.

Good stuff! I test drove a CL65 when it came out in Germany and although that was two decades ago, I will never forget how effortless this car delivered its massive amounts of power. So I ‘m a big fan of the engine and hope your project turns out the way you want it to!

I can totally relate. When I got a Porsche 997, I updated the front and rear lights resulting in a mass attack on me from Porsche purists.
Having said that, my 997 isn't that special. Had it been a rare limited model, I would understand the anger LOL

this quote really hit home...

About ten years back I test drove a 216 CL65, they are rocketships, fastest car I've driven, so I can see the potential of the motor. Unfortunately I live in Victoria Australia and they have got progressively more and more restrictive on engine swaps, and this would be impossible for me to do here, especially as the factory never offered this option. You probably have, but if you haven't seen it, there is a clip of a124 coupe with a swapped AMG 65 engine on Top Speed Germany being run down the autobahn. It's the fastest car I can find in any top speed clips, certainly the fastest accelerating to 300, and pulling from memory around 340, but they do back off, and I think it had more in it.
