Problems Becker radi grand prix

Hi, I bought the Becker Grand Prix with ipod aux and some speakers (I beleive clearance). Te point is that Mercedes dealer told me that they have to change all the wire of the car to install that radio, so I said no. Anyone knows if that´s true?
Thanks

Which Grand prix model ? Usually plug and play (surely if the same era), only way to find out is to pull out your old one and see. MB being typically dismissive, you can always rewire to fit other headunits if you wanted to. :banghead:

The original radio is wired differently than newer models: they have an amplifier unit in the trunk, above the battery. The wiring goes from the radio unit to the amplifier unit, then to the fader and then to the speakers. The front speakers are easy to re-wire, but the rears gave me some trouble too. I ripped out the amplifier unit and couldn't make head-or-tails from the wiring there.

I believe the antenna wire is different than the normal wires, too. You'll end up cutting all connectors and plugs and then fiddling around a long time finding out which wire does what.

Depends what radio your car came with. 1991-1993 model year USA-spec cars came with Becker 1432 head uits, and these need to have the entire radio system replaced (i.e., every cable) if you want to change to an aftermarket head unit.

The 1994-up USA cars with Becker 1492 are plug & play, easy to upgrade. Euro cars had different systems available, so I'm not sure, you'd need to post a photo of your factory head unit.

Thanks, I give up. I dont like to "open" the car. Can I change the speakers only? any one knows better speakers?
The Becker works just find, I bought the other one for the ipod function, but I bought a new cd magazine that I hope it works (I have 3 that doesnt),.

You can replace the dash speakers with Rainbows if you want. There are no drop-in door speakers, and the rear speakers are already very good - not worth upgrading. There is no cheap upgrade method for the 1432 units. Your car is a 1994 facelift style, so I'd think it would have 1492, but can't tell if you don't post a photo.
