Proper wheel offeset on the 95 E-420

A super light wheel for $110 each new is extremely tempting. However, I remain skeptical... if it sounds too good to be true, etc.

Just curious, have you confirmed that Voxx has the proper offsets available, and the correct center bore? The discussion might be academic if you can't get them in 5x112 with 66.67 bore. (Remember you will still need custom length lug bolts with cone seat.)

Bought from the Discount Tire Direct guys several times and made the call yesterday on the wheel fit issue. They insist that the offset and center bore are correct and say that 225's might work but are going to be super close so we looked at the 215's.
The 98 V-90 is about as hard to fit as the 95 E-420 if not worse because they did a major suspension redesign in 96 on those then dropped all the the rear drive cars in 98. They nailed the fit on V-90 first round so---.
Proper bolts, mounted balanced and shipped with the W rated Continental Extreme contacts in 215x55x16 is $1100 for the package.
They did 2 adjustments for me on my P-5's. First one i cut a sidewall replaced under road hazard for $10 no hassle second time I got half what they warrantied they would on mileage and got a replacement set at a big discount again no hassle at all and all shipped to my door.

OK... so what is the exact width & offset? I never, ever, EVER trust tire store guys who say "it will fit", if they cannot provide the specs of the wheel. Slight spin on Jerry McGuire, but SHOW ME THE NUMBERS!

16x7.5 on the width and will make the call tomorrow or Monday on the exact offset. My main concern is them clearing the front calipers with the spokes.

Rethinking the wheel issue on the 420. Not at all happy with the tires I have on the car now and don't want to buy a set of 15's with a W speed rate if I can help it.
Really doing a rethink on the Voxx set up as the exact wheel series that I have on the Volvo is available with a 40mm offset in 17x8. The guys at Discount are insistent that they will fit with 215x50's with out an issue so---.
I just did front brakes on the Volvo a couple days back and had forgotten just how light that set up was. The 16x7 Voxx and P5's on the Volvo were lighter than just the stock 15 inch raw wheel on the 420 WOW! At under $125 a pop on the wheels I'm really looking hard at that set as I have had these on the Volvo for 6 years through 2 sets of tires and like them a LOT!

It's a nice looking wheel and the width and offset should theoretically fit. But as mentioned above, you may have an issue with either tire/wheel contact with the strut tube or possibly the brake caliper by the spokes. No way to know without trying as I doubt they will give you a fitment template. Also note that 215/50-17 is .5 inch taller than stock, probably not an major issue but your speedo will be slightly off.

Ditto what Glen said.

I would NOT use a 215/50/17 tire on an 8.0 wheel... not sure why you would even consider this. Some tire mfr's do not even approve this tire for an 8.0 wheel!

The correct size would be 235/45, with a possible alternate of 225/45.

Simple answer is that this particular wheel comes only in the 17x8 with the 40mm offset and 5x11 bolt pattern and while it says a 225 will fit I suspect anything larger than the 215 is not going to clear without some mods. I would rather use a 225 if it would fit but---. Also still looking at the 8 hole 16's but the weight difference is so substantial and I also prefer the 17's if I can get them.
Thanks on the overall height issue with the 215x 50''s as most of the tires I am considering also come in a 215x45x17 and the LAST thing this one needs is longer legs!!
This is how she sets right now.

When I bought it the 195x60x15 Michelin's were so dry rotted from sitting in the garage they were not safe so I grabbed a cheap pull of set of 205x60 H rated Hankooks ( these were pull off tires from Alabama built new Hyundai's) just to get something safe to drive on it and wait until I could decide on what I really want. However I now have a vibration that I can tell is tire related. Tomorrow I will run it over to a buddy of mine's place and take a close look at what is going on with this set. If I can't get this settled easily with just a good balance on his set up might go ahead and spring for something else in the next few days and settle this for good.

I was contemplating using two sets of 17 AMG c36 front wheels for my 95 e420 as it would seem that they would fit without modification (17x7.5 et35). There are refinished ones online for $137 each plus free shipping. Does anyone see an issue with using front wheels in the rear? Will these fit without modification if I use 17 215 45 series tires? Thanks!

It's REALLY close in the front in that size as i just went to an aftermarket set of wheels and the 215-45-17's on my 95 E420.
Be ready to roll the front lips and then do the AMG spacers on the front as these cars are super tight stock on the front wells.
See my posts here to get a grip on what I went through with that same size offset combo.

Should work fine, although I'd stick with the factory spec of 225-45-17 tires on that wheel. At stock ride height you may have zero issues if you drive conservatively. If the car is lowered and/or you push it in corners, plan on the mods mentioned above (light roll on fender lips, fender spacers, etc). The rears can take up to an 8.5" wheel with appropriate massaging, so the 7.5 in the rear should not cause problems. It's a tighter fit up front.
