Question for Admins: Best way to attach LOTS of pictures??

Hello all. Very soon - hopefully today 3/7/22 if I can get it all ready - I will be posting my 1994 E500 for sale in the Sales forum. I would like to include a LOT of pictures and was wondering the best way to do this? Should I add them directly into the listing and subsequent posts as attachments, or put them up on an external hosting site (I do not have such a thing at present, but I suppose I could find one and set it up)? Are there limits to the number of pictures we are allowed to post? Are there requirements for particular file formats? Min/max file sizes?

I really want to do this right and not screw anything up, or hog up too much in the way of system resources, so any advice would be much appreciated!

System parameters allow the direct attachment of up to 100 photos PER POST. You should use the "attach photos" button at the bottom of any post, which should open up a system dialog on your computer and allow you to either singly or "bulk" attach the photos. To bulk attach, you can hold the SHIFT key and highlight all of the photos in any given folder on your hard drive that you want to attach. Then hit the "upload" button and each photo will in turn, sequentially, upload itself to the server, and then you hit the "POST" button to save the post.

If you have more than 100 photos, just create a second "reply" post in the thread and add more photos.

Photo parameters are generous both for physical size (pixels) and file size, but if they are too large for these parameters, the system will reject the photos, and you will need to resize them downward to reduce pixel and/or file size.

Good luck !

Thank you! I'll have well over 200 photos in total, so I'll do multiple "replies" and categorize them in an organized fashion.

I'll try to attach my "largest" photo here as a test. It's 3024x4032 pixels and 4.38 MB JPEG, so if the system will allow this then I shouldn't have any trouble!

Set up an account on flickr, upload the pics to there, create an album, and then link the album location to the for sale listing.

@IBNR, If I try to open large pixel pics they take forever to open. I just move on and don’t bother. If you resize them it cuts down on the MBs and allows them to load faster .

When I upload pictures to the 500Eboard I resize the pixels 800x600. It will cut the MBs way down but doesn’t hurt the quality of the pics IMOP but helps them load faster and also they open up way faster when someone starts looking at them.

The file size reduction is more important than pixel dimensions. Try to keep it under 1MB max. With a program that can compress JPG's you should be able to get large 1800x1200 pixel dimensions along with a file size well under 0.5MB.

The forum will automatically compress all images uploaded into smaller "thumbnail" images that are displayed as attachments on posts. Clicking on the thumbnails enlarges them in the "viewer" mode.

Ok, I will try to find a way to reduce the pixel dimensions and file size. I think I have a program with that function. Hopefully I'll get the listing up later today after I finish the yardwork.

Ok...here's that same picture I posted above, resized to max width of 1200px, which brought the file size down to 902kb. Since this was the "largest" picture in my set, I assume the rest will end up well under 1MB, and some under 0.5MB. Better?
