Keeping an eye on it, but if it starts to reach the GT pricing I've been eyeing, well...

That has to be a typo. I don't think it was possible to achieve those power levels with LH injection back in 1994, and not at 5700rpm, on a 6.9L engine, without forced induction. That would be almost 100hp per liter! Normally aspirated AMG engines in the 2000's couldn't even match that. And AMG/Pagani also couldn't hit those numbers until 2009-2012, achieved by spinning to ~8000rpm.M120 with 515 kW (700ps / 691hp) !!!

@weide1So your SL 70 could well be equipped with a 7.2 ME engine.
Best is to look for an engine stamp. That should prove it, i suppose?
Since a plate like this is not on the engine. A stamp is.

And here i read AMG Motornumber 0029, i suppose that number should be stamped in the engine.

Confusing stuff.

thank you."It would make sense both numbers be the same no?"
It sure would make sense. However, i've seen more cars that have these different numbers.
I´d ask Tino Zovko or Bernard Marijanovic on facebook.
They trade, maintain, and build these M120s.
I found some images of 075 on my computer.
Yes I do. I can add pics if anyone has questions. From what I can find the sl72 was made in 1995 and early 96 and they are stamped with the amg 72 on the engine block.you can hold all of this cars in your hand?
It would be great to see some photos of these cars.Yes I do. I can add pics if anyone has questions. From what I can find the sl72 was made in 1995 and early 96 and they are stamped with the amg 72 on the engine block.
The SL72 with 120.983 engine is interesting. When availible, I'd like to see overall images of it. Do you also have images of it, similar to these examples? Thanks in advance.Hi,
I am new to this thread but I had some interesting info.
I have been able to acquire two SL70's, one SL72 and one SL73 over the last few years. Here is some info that might help:
SL70 manufacture dates are 1996 and 1997 and both cars are 120.983 engines and are stamped AMG 00## 7.0
SL72 manufactured 1995 has an 120.983 engine as well and is stamped AMG 0072. Interesting to note that this car was not badged an sl72 when I bought it
SL73 manufacture dates 1999 also has a 120.983 engine and is stamped AMG 0073
Hopefully this is helpful to someone
Next week I will upload all the pics. The SL72 with 120.983 engine is interesting. When availible, I'd like to see overall images of it. Do you also have images of it, similar to these examples? Thanks in advance.

My recently purchased SL600 is a Tourist car as well. This was a European delivery option for US customers, the car can be collected from the factory with export plates to be driven in Europe then shipped to the US.That would be great. Looking forward to.
VIN shows Order Location - Tourists (Without USA).
I remember this was discussed before. However i forgot the exact meaning of it. Do you happen to know this?
72 as 120.982, i've only seen in BR140.
72 as 120.980/981, i've seen in BR140 and R129.
So your 72 120.983 is quite rare. And remarkable when ordered as new. Since the 7.3 was upcoming.
The earliest sl73 I have seen were after 1997. Do you have any info otherwise ?My recently purchased SL600 is a Tourist car as well. This was a European delivery option for US customers, the car can be collected from the factory with export plates to be driven in Europe then shipped to the US.
As for the AMG variants, the emphasis must be on documentation and verification.
This is what I mentioned earlier, the SL73 must have an Identifier in the datacard just like the E60 AMG and the C36 AMG which were produced much earlier. In the case of the both these cars, the VIN number was from a standard M-B (i.e E500 , C280) but with the AMG technical package both in the Vedoc (remember this CAN BE ALTERED) and the vehicle documentation. Please refer to my thread on verifying the Factory build W124 E60 AMG.In the Datacard are no Staning any Information over the Modifications.so why did have no modification the Datacards. AMG was to this Point an Member from Mercedes Benz?
I've seen the 7.3 mentioned in 140 and 129 in brochure in august 1996.The earliest sl73 I have seen were after 1997. Do you have any info otherwise ?
Afaik all 73, and most likely 70 and 72 too, i didn't check, are 600 from VIN. This Fahrzeugdokument is the only SL73, that i have in my archive, that shows 120.990.I don't remember coming across any S/SL70-73 with an option code that differentiates it than a S/SL600. I just checked EPC for a 129076 with either 990 or 957 and nothing came up.
