RADIO CODE HELP

Hi everyone, had the negative cable disconnected from the battery working on some elect. maintenance and the original radio is looking for the CODE.

Anyone know the code for a 93 500 stock radio? I searched our site but no luck!

Thanks in advance
Bob G

Radio codes are random and exclusive to the particular unit in the car.

Check your owners manual/radio manual that came with the car, usually the code is written down in there.

Enter the code then press the rightmost arrow button to execute.

Thanks but I bought the car used and it had an owners manual but no stereo or data info.

I sent an email to the seller and if he does not have I will attempt to go the the MBZ dealer and see if they can help

Thanks !

Yes, any dealer (or good indy shop) can get you the code.

Also, if you contact Becker North America, they will supply you the code.

www.beckerautosound.com Call them and ask for Ed Ebel.

Often times the code is written on the top of the radio and you can see it when it's removed ... and I've seen it as the last four digits of the serial number on the sticker on the top of the radio too.

Cheers,
Gerry

I have had the dreaded "Wait" message also and Ed's number has been disconnected.
I sent Becker an e-mail and am waiting for a reply. I have the code, so all I have to do is get rid of the "Wait" message.

You need to get the main number from Becker's web site and call that. If it doesn't work, Google until you find it.

Where is the serial number and does the deck have to be removed? If that is the case, how to do that??

Thanks!

Serial numbers on the casing, and yes you'll have to remove the radio to see and need propers keys to yank it out!

Shouldn't need keys for a 1992 or 1993 Becker unit. Generally you can work them out of the dashboard with your fingers.

It's the 1994 (and non-036 1995) US radios that require a set of inexpensive special keys to remove from the dash.

That's my experience having owned a 1992 300TE and several 1994/1995 124s. YMMV with non-US radios depending what was spec'd on the car.

Cheers,
Gerry

Got a hold of Ed today. He is a friendly guy.
Just get the serial number from the top, and he will give you the code.

Not yet. I have to get rid of the "WAIT" message first. :loony: I don't think I have given it enough time to clear.

You shouldn't have to wait more than overnight. If you do, google it and you'll find instructions on how to accelerate it so that you can input the digits.

I did this two years ago and I got the code (for a 92 400e). 1539 or 2539 was the code and I got it without removing the radio somehow, but I forget how! I thought it was somewhere online, or perhaps my father did the research and got me the code...he must have called Becker. I also had to remove the WAIT and found the becker instructions to be right on:

To get rid of WAIT more quickly:

"If WAIT is displayed, place the ignition to the accessories position for a period of time. This may take from 15 minutes to 24 hours (depending in how many times the wrong code was entered)."

Try this site:

http://www.radio-code.lt/

No cost , just register with a disposable email address if you wish. Enter serial number of your radio and it'll spit out the code.
Thanks for the link. Bing! That site worked great, I tried entering a Becker serial and it did indeed spit out the correct code. Pretty slick...

I tried that site last year sometime and it didn't work for me, but I'm glad that it sounds like it may work. I just write the codes on the top of my radios with a Sharpie, and don't mess with them again. And I have a file on my computer with all of my radio codes too, just as backup.

Those Becker 1432s and 1492s are hot hot hot items, they get nabbed so frequently by the thieves .....

The site is picky about the serial number format, and it's not very clear. Took me a few tries but I finally got it working. Definitely handy for all those hot Becker units (which most thieves would have to pay to get rid of, lol).

Glad to hear it works! I haven't tried it personally but my super dooper mechanic told me about it. Last time I had to decode it cost me bloody £10 !

How can you you be a senior member if you did not have a license in the 80's? I thought 500E's were for grey haired guys looking to make Muscle Car Guys look bad.

Hey, hey, hey....we don't need to have grey hair in order to make the muscle car guys look bad, we are doing it without grey hair as well. And the look of disbelieve is not from the guy behind the wheel, it's from his female passenger. :e500launch:

Sorry I've taken so long to get back. I went to that web site and put in the serial # . Presto, the code appeared, however, it did not work. I still have "CODE" in the window. I tried it again, but no cigar!
I got the serial # off the card, not the unit. Just how do you remove the unit in the 1992 500E?

You need special "keys" to remove the radio... and yes, you need to check the serial number on the unit.

Click here for a thread on the keys & removal, there are some photos showing how they work.

Has anyone been able to use this site successfully lately? I picked up a Becker BE1432 from the junk yard yesterday and would like to test it. When I try to register at this site, nothing happens.

I wonder whether the codes are truly "random" and are just logged in a database of all SNs, or if the codes are essentially encrypted in the model# and serial# and can be derived using some kind of algorithm. My guess would be the latter. Frustrating if that's the case. If we could figure out the algorithm I could easily set up a free online tool we could all use to generate codes. No downloads or logins required.

Does anyone know of any free option that currently works?

I tried contacting the support email for the site and got an automatic reply indicating the address was not found. I think it's a zombie site at this point.

If you contact Becker North America, they should be able to provide you with the code for free.

Thanks Gerry. I'll give that a try.

The stupid thing is that the only reason I'm even trying to do this is so I can fully test the unit before it goes on eBay. My 500SL has the same stereo, so if I can get the code it'll be easy to test. It was $20 at the junk yard, and appears to be in beautiful condition, so I figured it was worth snagging just to save it from the crusher. Buyers will want to know if it works, and I'd love to be able to answer that.

I called Becker and the person who answer redirected me to their home page and ebay.. I told them I am not sure the radio is worth $20.
I guess they are getting more and more calls..

I don't know why they don't just release all the codes or the algorithm to compute the codes freely.

Aren't there web sites that provide this info free of charge? Or are they off-line now?
I intend to try to find a free one, but I need to pull the radio to get the model/serial number first, at least according to the Becker's eBay page.

Dealer requires proof of ownership (registration or title) along with your driver's license.

Some dealers require the car to be present when they give you the key. For newer cars (i.e., 211 chassis with EIS) they may also lie and tell you the key must be programmed to the car, which is 100% BS... zero programming is required. They just want to charge another half-hour labor on top of the already alarming cost of the key.
