Hello
I need to know if the rear sls schock absorbers for R129 W201 W202 will fit my w124 500E?
I noticed that all of these schocks have the same design and length, i wonder if i use the W202 shocks for my car anything will be different?
Sometimes there is a number & color code on the shock absorber like 4 orange color , 6 blue color , what this number stands for?
Thank you

I believe the 500E ones are specific. Not utilised in other models. Luckily you can buy Sachs replacement parts that are essentially the same but at a more sensible price vs. OEM. I use the Sachs SLS shocks with no problems so far.

I don't know about pricing in Europe, but in USA, the OE rear E500E SLS struts are the same or cheaper than aftermarket Sachs 102-503.

Sachs is ~$400 from most vendors with free shipping, OE is a bit less but without free shipping:

I remember me ive bought 2 of the rear sls last year and i paid ca 700 per pice. And are not the same as nomal SLS for exemple 300 or 400e .The 500e has Springs in side for a rebound stop. And this typ was only avallible in OEM Mercedes Store

I thought the internal rebound springs only applied to the front shocks?
Nope! All four corners on the 036, detailed in the Intro manual. You can feel this on the strut when removed from the car, if you pull outward, the spring pulls it back in:

Thank you all for the replies
The following pictures show the difference in color and number, the red color for w201, the blue color for r129, the orange color for w202 and the white color for w124.
All the same length, but now i understand that the w124 struts has internal rebound springs.
I ordered 2 struts and was for w202 orange color code, i will place them on my car and see if there is any difference.
Thanks again

Keep in mind it's not just colored numbers and internal springs that are different. The valving inside is also likely different, even if they are externally identical.

Why don't you order the correct 036 items?

:mushroom:

In my mind the orig old 036 struts was stamped with red 6.Last year a bourght the neew ones with local MB-Dealer and the new ones was only stamped with the orig.new partnumber no numbers red with green. and i paid aprox 600 per each. This is the reason for experimental.i tried too with normal sls .wihtout rebound spring inside.dont drivebelle under sport activitis.the ass is wobbling and shacking not nice ,for pensioner ok. but for street high speed :roadrunner: use not good

There were never 124.036 struts with a red 6, AFAIK. Most likely someone installed the wrong ones in the past.

The correct ones for 036 have a white "9" on them. What part number did you receive from the dealer? Does it match the numbers in the photos below?

+1@aliking, The car will ride and perform better with the correct parts. Why not take gsxr’s advice and return your 202 wrong struts and get the correct ones for a 124036 E500E?

Are the struts not returnable? Is the cost that much different?

Yes, replying to gsxr & TerryA, the struts i bought are a w202 c36/43 amg struts accoarding to the part number, and im not able to return them, but i will now keep them and buy the correct struts for my car for better driving, i was just curious to know why the color code different.
But now its strange why another powerful & sport car like the c43 amg has a strut without internal rebound spring?
