Remote start engine for W124?

I wonder if there was any option that has a remote start engine for W124 as standard? Or was it an aftermarket thing?

My father told me some few years ago about the W124 200E 1989 he owned has a remote start engine option so he could warm it up during the winter while he gets ready for work, he owned that car from 1994 up to 1998. I'm trying to gather information to confirm it. Can someone verify :) ?

I've also been searching in youtube and some people has done a push button for starting the W124 but also there is a remote start up engine.

Remote start was never a factory option on the 124. I don't know if or when that was available, post-2000.

Any chance your father was referring to stationary heating, which would warm up the car (and engine) in winter? That was a factory option.

Stationary heating can be it, but the car had an advance remote alarm system so I thought that combined with this technology the car can also start with remote as he said. Just as in the video above. The pursue on this matter is, if it was indeed a remote start, then W124 was really ahead of its time. The remote was introduced in 1985. Source : Here

It is entirely possible that there was a remote start added, as an aftermarket accessory, likely part of the alarm system. But this was NOT a factory option.

For the last 20 years or so I believe the dogma regarding warm-up time/technique in cold weather is that the car should be gently driven as soon as it clears it’s throat, hastening optimum oil flow.

Especially in very cold weather…

1000% correct. Long periods of idling after a cold start is not good for the engine. Start it up, put it in gear, and go easy on the throttle until coolant temps are at least in the 50-60C range. In cold/winter weather, it can take forever for oil and ATF to get anywhere near operating temp, despite the coolant being at 80C within a few minutes of driving.

Yes, it has a lot of impact with fuel efficiency as well.
