FYI Behr, OE, and Denso Radiators for the W124.036/.034 are all NLA

FWIW, I have Nissens in both cars. One was replaced in 2009 and the other in 2017. IIRC there was a minor issue of having to bend or modify the lower mount bracket, but I would replace these with Nissens again when it's time.

Just bought a Mahle Behr Radiator from a local parts shop and it says made in South Africa. I thought the Behr made in South Africa was NLA.
The radiators for 034/036 are is NLA from Mercedes and Mahle/Behr. I think the radiator you received is not correct for the 034/036 chassis. 😟

Mahle/Behr CR282000P (shown in your photo) crosses to Mercedes 1245003103 / 1245000002, which fits the 124.133/.193 six-cylinder turbodiesels. Note the ATF cooler fittings may be different, and there may not be an aeration fitting at the top of the radiator either.

Your right.

Heys guys,
I`m Michael from Germany and a lucky owner of a nearly perfect conditioned 500E bulit in `91.
My mechanic advised me to get a new radiator. My research gets me to buy a Nissens A62679A, as the available Mahle/Behr CR282000P seems not to fit.
Are there any other options except letting build a new one?

Thanks a lot for your answers!

Grreting from Germany

Michael

Nice! You should start an OWNER thread here with some photos of your 500E. 😁

CR282000P is not for the 400E/500E, it's for different 124 chassis. See post #104 above (click here) with details.

CR283000P fits the 400E/500E (124.034/.036) but is NLA.

Nissens is the only option I'm aware of, besides having a custom all-aluminum radiator fabricated.

Welcome to the forum!

:welcome4:

Nissens is the only decent quality option available at the current time. Unfortunately they are no longer made in Denmark.

That said, I had one on my car for a number of years and it was just fine.

Cheers from Smithfield Market, London.

PS: What about climate condensors, anything available?
I'm not aware of any condensers available for the 034/036, either OE/OEM or aftermarket.

Condensers are extremely rare failures, unless damaged in an accident. Usually if needed, you can obtain a good used one and flush it thoroughly before installing / vacuuming / charging.

New condensers are NLA for the V-8 W124s, and as far as I know there are no commercial replacements. It would require a condenser be custom-made, or perhaps one could be adapted from another model? That could be worth investigating.

Interestingly (and I very recently checked on this) condensers are still available for my 1995 G-wagen, though something like $700-800. Go figure.

Hey

Mahle CR 283 000P is still available at autodoc. There are two units left so you should be able to get it. It was about 240 and I have a coupon code that can get you 10€ off. Unless you already ordered Nissens which is of course a good choice too.
I asked their customer service and they did not know where the radiator was manufactured but I ordered the same radiator some years ago and it was made in South Africa.
The condenser is a unicorn to find a new one. Spent numerous hours and sent dozens of emails and did not get any. Luckily the old one still works, good German quality.

CR283000P = Mahle/Behr "Premium" line, made in RSA / South Africa.

CR283000S = Mahle/Behr "standard" line, made in India. See attached photo showing both labels side by side.

Thankfully, condensers almost never "wear out", and a good used condenser is a suitable replacement for a damaged old one. Not that it's easy locating a used 034/036 condenser either.

Just finding this now! But thanks for putting in the work to look at that

I have a 124.133 and eventually, the radiator will fail. Everything good at the moment - but I have thought about buying something in advance. Autohaus AZ (local to me) only seems to have the Nissens one. I checked both part numbers you shared there and seems like it's been NLA from MB.

Hey Timo, where did you find that? I didn`t get it, perhaps it`s already sold....
