Xenon for E500

It will be virtually impossible to get a proper beam pattern with HID's when used in Halogen reflector housings. Your best bet would be to retrofit HID projectors into the headlights.

You would also need to grind off the fluting from the inside of the lens. I know of one person who did this and it turned out very good. A few years ago I went a different route, using aftermarket headlights with plastic lens's that had no fluting.

This was the best retrofit I have seen for HID projectors.

As an alternate, you could pick up these headlights and install HID's into them.

2phast is correct. It's a ridiculous amount of work to properly retrofit HID's into a 124 headlamp housing. And no, don't put an HID burner into a halogen reflector. Read the tech article linked below for an explanation.

Best option is to get the best, or highest wattage, halogen bulbs. High-wattage bulbs require relays to operate correctly. The light output on high beam with four 100-watt halogens will be similar to HID.

Search the forum for older threads, this topic has been discussed repeatedly...

I had xenon projectors retrofitted into my car when it was still in the Facelift setup. The projector was sourced from w163 headlights. Cut off the rear of the reflector, made a covering plate with cut out for the projector and joint it all together (rear cover needs extension).
The light pattern even with the normal head light lens worked very well, I found it not needed to do any work on the lens...
The projector was very close to the lens basically, only a couple of mm space in between.
I really loved the light, however when changing back to the original pre-facelift design I opted for stock lighting with new lights (luckily still available back then)

wow, have any pic ?

Sure, here: the projectors are as stated from w163, the chrome bezels around the projectors are from W211 and clip right on. The adapter plate is painted black.

Hello.
So as a part of my profession, I build lights for cars. And honestly it was really hard to resist for me to install projector inside w124 lights as I did not want to spoil the classy look of w124 with a retrofit, even though having collection of some of the best hid projector produced till date, and things I know at the back of my hand.

On to the topic
The previous owner installed the 100w halogen but still it was hard to resist so I installed hid but with a custom made casper shield, To prevent as much as glare I can in low beam. Its way better in output than 100w halogens, maybe because I am using true 55w boosted hella ballasts.
Although glare is very controlled but you still cant have true cutoff that of a halogen bulb.

If you really wanna install hid then you can get a good bulb from Morimoto or directly from China. As no oe brands likes of Philips, Osram make kit/h series bulb.

For ballasts get a boosted Hella ballasts. They are basically 35w but can be boosted to 38,42,46,50,55w respectively. And no aftermarket ballast matches it in quick startup time. Aftermarket you can get Hilux, morimoto ballasts.
Relay from Morimoto.

Hope it helps
