Removing Side Mirror Housing

So I am getting ready to have the side mirrors housings I bought (thanks Captruff!) painted so I can replace mine which have a few scratches. I thought it would be better to get ones painted and then remove my current mirror housings, put on new rubber with the newly painted housings, and then reinstall the assembled units on my car.

Unfortunately, I'm having a bear of a time separating the housing for the rest of the mirror. Is there an easy way or a tool I need to use in order to get the housings removed?

Thanks in advance.

Robert
