Sent PMs held up in the outbox

Hi.

Sometimes I experience my sent PMs held up for a longer period in the Outbox, 8-12 hours. Is it something we can do to prevent this or accelerate the process?

As far as I know they look like they are held up but are actually delivered to the recipient.
 
I believe they stay in the Outbox until the recipient views the message. That way you can tell if/when they got it.
