If anyone here on the board lives in Singapore and is interested in grabbing a beer, let me know. I'm here in Singapore (near the Raffles) for the next week or so. My treat.

Cheers,
Gerry

P.S. Saw a current E-Class coupe "BRABUS" on the way to my hotel from Singapore Changi airport this morning.....

Gerry - on a recent TV Foodie show from Singapore (Anthony Bourdain - The Layover, Singapore), one of the locals said that it costs $100,000 Singapore Dollars ($78,000 USD) to obtain a license to BUY a car in Singapore. Is this true?

This would be one way of traffic management. Can you imagine if California did that? Driving on the 405 would be so ... heavenly.

Enjoy your stay.

Hi Gerry,

If you fly into Changi Airport, there's a Mercedes Benz boutique store at the Terminal 1, just before entering the immigration area. Also, when in the city with a few hours, the MB dealer (I think Horse & Carraige), they have the largest MB boutique store in Asia. That's if you're into these things. There's a place also that's similar to USA junkyards, I noticed that they had a lot of dismantled W124's, if interested, I'd look up the name and address. Singapore is where the MB parts distribution area for the whole of Southeast Asia and China located.

I have the weekend (particularly Saturday) free so would LOVE to see the wrecker. Please let me know info. I'll check the boutique out at Changi when I leave next week. Thanks for the heads up on both, C !!

Let me know the next time you're here...and it's true in that there is a bidding system..and it is currently about $80,000 SGD which is about USD $60K plus. Here, I drive a 1994 E200 while thinking about the 1992 500E I leave garaged for months in the U.S....sigh!

Hello.

My employer (FMC Technologies - http://www.fmctechnologies.com/en/SubseaSystems.aspx) has sites in both Singapore and Nusajaya, Malaysia. I visitted both places back in May 2007, but I didn't see any 124 down there, not one! The fleet was mostly newer cars. Is the 124 a rare find there?

Cheers
