Trunk-mounted cargo net

At the sound of my prized box of iced-down Lord Chesterfield Ale slamming into the opposite side of the trunk upon entering a turn, I said, “This time is the last time”. I was going to install a trunk mounted cargo net once & for all in the 500E.

The universal-style cargo net (STA-TYTE Model T-820) was originally purchased several years ago for installation in my W111, where it performed temporary service. Always reluctant to drill any holes, I had never committed to a permanent mounting solution in that car (which is now off the road).

After a considerable amount of time regarding possible mounting locations within the 500E trunk, I narrowed my choices down to two (of which I selected the easiest to install).

This removable cargo net has four mounting loops which attach over four mounting lugs (plastic knobs) which have an adhesive backing & a means of screw attachment. I chose to screw the mounting lugs into flat-surface sections of the left & right trunk wall linings. Fender washers back up the mounting points for additional reinforcement. The net design & colors blend very well with those of the 500E trunk.

The net was put immediately into service during a weekend travel vacation where it performed superbly. All items remained securely in place. Definitely a welcome accessory.

Hey, Mr. Hitler...Where did you get these pix? I've never seen a 500E's trunk like that. ;-) Is this your 93'?

Hey, Mr. Jimbo...there's a serious heatwave afoot & it appears it is taking its toll. Revert to your previous avatar, then seek an air conditioned room immediately. After a while, it will all start making sense again.

He should be used to the heat, DerF, he once lived here in Houston for a spell. Then again, Connecticut has some pretty bad temperature extremes....

Off-topic: I just had a friend in Phoenix tell me yesterday that it was 117F there, and that he prefers 117F Phoenix heat to 95F Houston heat. I say it makes no matter WHAT temperature/humidity it is, because I pretty much live indoors from May 1 through September 30 anyway....
