Hello all,

Did mercedes make an updated more resilient overload relay for w124 w202 with 2 fuses instead of one?

this is model 0005406745

there seems to be an updated one mode 2015403745 that has a RED color top portion and 2 fuses.

Can anyone confirm this fits w124 and w202 cars and is update, stronger and less prone to failure?

Thanks all.

I have seen units with both one and two fuses in the top that are appropriate for the non-V-8 W124 applications (such as the E320).

I have always used the red-top two-fuse unit, with the 201 part number.

You should check the EPC to see what part number(s) are spec'd for the vehicle. You didn't say which car this is for.

Thanks Gerry. its for year 1995 w202 C36 M104 engine.

I wasnt sure if Mercedes came out with a newer better overload protection part. Someone posted that the 'RED' top model newer is less prone to failure.

The best red-top OVPs were made by a German company called Stribel. I am not sure if they are still making them.

In recent years, the OVPs you get are made by Kaehler (KAE), and these have been available on the aftermarket. They are not as high of quality as the old Stribel units, but will last for at least a few years before failing. I typically keep a stash of used Stribel units in my parts collection, and on the rare occasions I've had to replce the OVP, really in my 1989 560SEC, I just swap one of the old OE Stribel units in.

The KAE unit that is typical, I also am not sure if they are still making. However, they are available from Meyle, URO and Vemo -- all shit brands.

Also, you need to double-check the application for each of the OVP relays that you have noted above. The list for the red-top OVP is MUCH MUCH larger in terms of the vehicles it supports, than the silver one.

Here is the list of applications for the silver one:
