All,

MB announced recently that they will be releasing DVDs containing comprehensive service information, including maintenance and repair procedures, parts catalogs, owners manual set, and electrical wiring diagrams. This is probably the most advanced combination of EPC, WIS and service workbooks yet released.

They are available now for the R107 and the R129, and will soon be available for the 111, 116, 123, 124, 201 and 202 cars.

Press release attached.

Gerry

Wow, that's great news! Everything we need on a single DVD.

Should be interesting to see if there is any "new" information, or if it's the same old stuff repackaged into a spiffy new DVD with a fancier GUI. Priced at $129 EUR (approx $199 USD) per chassis, it sure is spendy...

My sense is that it will be the SOS (same old shit) but on DVD so it's all together - and perhaps integrated - no need for multiple CDs as in the past.

And I'm sure that bootleg copies will begin appearing on eBay within a few weeks, too ... :relieved:

So it goes .... :flush:

Cheers,
Gerry

I have EPC and WIS net 2009 standalone on my computer but it is quite difficuilt to find out the right material in it. The most of the documents in WIS are in german but that is really not the bigest problem for me and if there will be some DVD with complex data about W124, I will be very happy with it and I will pay for it ;)

My understanding from various articles I've read is that these DVDs will just be a compilation of the currently available information that's on the EPC, WIS, owners' and maintenance manuals, electrical and engine manuals, etc. Comprehensive in that it's all in one place on the disk, but nothing new if one has already collected the information separately or has access to it.

Cheers,
Gerry

You can set the language choice in the WIS to whatever you want. But yes, it is NOT easy to use! In general, I recommend using the current CD-ROM, it's easy to use, and posted online here:

Where can I find an online copy or buy a copy of the Diagnosis Manual Engine Vol 2..? The FSM makes reference to it, I have been looking around but cannot find anything related to it. Can someone suggest where I can acquire a copy..?

This is part of the WIS, or you can find the DM via eBay but sellers usually want ridiculous amounts for it. What specifically were you wanting to find in the DM v2? It may not be as helpful as you're expecting, btw...!

:hornets:

The DM assumes you are a dealer tech with full dealer tools available, and often specifies electrical breakout boxes to check for certain resistances / voltages / etc. Which of course you and I wouldn't have available. The info can still be helpful, but don't expect magic. Again, it's all in the WIS... just not easy to locate, as the WIS has a terrible user interface.

BTW - still no word on that new W124 DVD, eh Gerry? AFAIK it's still not available...

:wormhole:

There is a section on engine speed governing. In one instance the engine speed is governed @ 5600 rpm incase the road speed signal is interrupted. Would this account for a fault in the rear axle vehicle speed sensor..?
Regarding the Diagnosis Manual Engine Vol.2, the areas which I would like to dig into are specifically related to:
Cylinder Selective Fuel Cutoff, Ignition circuit fuel cutoff dealing with fault in ignition coil or open circuit in wire.
I was also hoping I could find more information there on diagnosing the Fuel Safety Cutoff by the LH module when triggered by a safety function of the electronic accelerator pedal actuator. It states that this function goes into effect, “if the throttle valve is opened further than specified by the accelerator pedal because of a malfunction and the tempomat cruise control is not in use.”
This leads me to believe there might be something going on with my ETA even though records show it was replaced 2 yrs ago. Also, could the CC create some type of conflict if not functioning properly..? I have been driving for some days now after replacing the EZL and NO DTC’s have appeared or stored for that matter.
For the above reasons, I wanted to get my hands on something out there that might help me in the diagnostics of my engine not being able to reach redline and acting up with very low torque. I would practically need to dissect the parameters influencing control:
1. Engine speed
2. Camshaft Speed
3. Coolant temperature
4. Intake air temperature
5. Idle speed and full load recognition
6. Absolute pressure in intake manifold
7. Adaptation of fuel injection maps by means of resistance trimming plugs = Not applicable for USA/Cali ver..
8. Idle speed correction, (idle speed emissions level as a mixture of adaptation) is performed by the lamba control in our case..
9. Battery voltage and voltage supply.
Another GREAT influencing factor to the injection timing is the lambda control. Now, in my case I am not getting any codes at all, and without live feed reading I need to find a way to test and determine if my O2 sensor is working properly. The manual also mentions a “faulty regeneration switchover valve” and this would be..?
I did notice today while on I-10, that at a steady 65 mph and an somewhere along the lines of 2500 rpm there is a very slight pulsating feeling to the drive, as if being bumped from behind, and no, there was no cross or south wind…?
So, again in conclusion, in-depth diagnosis of these areas are not depicted in the online manuals that I have come across with, hence I am looking for a heavier knowledge base. Are areas like these available on the WIS..?

Any thoughts..?

After your EZL debacle... have you verified your LH and E-GAS modules are correct for the car...?

:bartman:

Good point...this calls for further analysis...anything is possible at this stage,lol...and the E-gas module would be located..? Is this not integrated in the LH module..?

The BM, E-GAS, LH, and ABS/ASR modules are all in the CAN box. Just pop out the 4 screws, lift off the lid, and check the MB part numbers... or post a photo, etc. A non-ASR car will have a different module label for E-GAS, something like TTL, I forget exactly.

Ok I will get to it, will I have to remove the modules or are the part numbers visible..Will post pics as soon as I can.

Part numbers are visible right on top of the modules. Just remove the cover. Takes 2 minutes.

Report what you find.

Cheers,
Gerry

Here we go,

Dave went over the number on the EPC before I was able to. So everything in the CAN matches.. I guess I just have to make some time so I can get to the KS and engine mounts.. What would the best approach be, lifting the engine or picking it up a couple of centimeters with an engine hoist..?

"the engine speed is governed @ 5600 rpm incase the road speed signal is interrupted"
- Maybe my question will sound silly, but when was the last fuel filter replacement? Also, what does "signal is interrupted" mean? If the engine cuts off, there might be a problem with the fuel delivery.
