The YouTube auto-translate into English captions is barely cromulent, definitely stuff getting lost in the translation. Engine p0rn begins around 9:00 and at 9:42 he shows a custom SG piston for 6L M119...

According to the man himself, the cardboard box of knick-knacks for the refurbishment of the M275 has a price tag of €11k….🤐😵‍💫

Amazing engine and an incredible project, but the cost of the project and the ensuing maintenance is 1%er type of stuff and unfortunately eternally out of my league

:apl:

Anyone fancy doing this job, I have a W220 S600 TT parts car with 59000 miles in the shop that was blasted (and I mean blasted) in the rear.
That's a turn of events as it's usually the m275 that blasts the owners up the rear end with maintenance and running costs!!

However, fantastic engine supreme power would be amazing in a w124 chassis so long as there is a good functioning ASR system. If not it would be a death trap as that engine would easily overpower a w124 chassis

Another one.....

They do alot of crazy stuff but not always in a proper way... So for simplicity they change the steering to rack and pinion. in some of their previous builds but also other rack and pinion convertsions steering Geometrie is totally off or needed weird parts which would never pass any traffic authorities approval. They claim that the m120 powered car will be street legal but not sure if they will publish the efforts behind it.

This is why IMO... it makes more sense to stick with a V8 engine in the W124. Yes, the V12 is super cool and awesome, but the mods required to shoehorn it into an engine compartment that barely has V8 space, just isn't worth it. Displacement increase along with forced induction on a V8 could make the same power as any V12, just with different music from under the hood and out the tailpipes.

BTW, they mention having to add a rear brake line to the donor E420, this could have been avoided if they had sourced an E420 with ASR...

I totally agree I think a modern AMG V8 would be ideal for a w124.

I also do believe an M275 is actually too powerful for a w124 chassis. Having a tuned one in a long wheel base w220 it is a handful and can do rolling burnouts at 60mph+. When you hear the turbos spool your usually over 100mph and its only getting started. The old ASR / ABS systems in w124s is not good enough for an engine like that in the wrong hands.

Are there retrofit solutions nowadays for that? Or are these guys running aftermarket fuel management and negating the ASR? (I should watch the video I guess and will soon)

I think first its an very cool projekt. But a w124 with more 400ps has a little overpower. When i remeber to fit an big Brake on my 124 was so many try and error and the required 19zoll wheels .But the rubers in the bones are to loose .under flat out you can feel the body is not built after 2000.

But for me is the most common problem how to addapt the can Bus Speedometer on 124 or a solution with a new modern Flatcreen with an free prog Ecu.It is intresst to see how is going forward .I push and cross my fingers for both projekts JP`S and SG´S.

For the Steering linkage gives two solution but the mistake is that the Angle ist realy shit .why the steering sit too deep and the w210 is too wide .for a 180 turn you must take a second trail .

Its an good Ego shooter Projekt.

What most people forget about the v12 is the weight, and that weight being on the nose... I'd bet that car doesn't feel anywhere near as good as it would with like you guys mentioned a modern amg v8 or well sorted m119... imo. Each of those being at bare minimum 100+ lbs lighter.

That along with m156 is as far as my modern mb v8 knowledge goes and cares to go haha. Agreed, m113k would be enough power but that supercharger is also pretty heavy. If looking for big power with good weight balance and room to work… there are plenty of better options. Turbo m112, turbo k20/24, modded na m113… anyway that’s in the eye of the beholder and what level of ‘sacrilege’ they are willing to own 😂 though I don’t believe in any of that. Just build the car you want how you want and let others do the same.
