Looking online - nobody seems to sell them?

Is this the same Denso 17 like all 300/320e's use?

I the one on the 420e died this past week. It's spinning.. but not making any noise like a zero pressure event.
If MB is the way to go.. part numbers would be appreciated!

1993-up 400E/500E with 6-groove pulley should be p/n 000-230-06-11. MSRP from MB is $1040, $744 from parts.com. Dealer rebuilt (000-230-06-11-88) is half that, $511 list, $368 parts.com, $95 core.

Or, get a brand new Denso from AutohausAZ for $288. That's what I'd get, IIWY. If you get the new one, please let me know, I may be interested in your old/defective unit...

Dave,

At 140,000 miles- it may get a new compressor ($288)... how long can a compressor last in a car driven in the south! Today is low 90's and 100% humidity due to yesterdays gully washer.

I know with Bosch, the MB boxed parts are done at a different plant in Germany unlike the bosch aftermarket in the USA is done in Illinois?

I'm not sure what is re-usable in a rebuild. The aftermarket guys weld the aluminum housings when damaged or out of spec. I'd guess all new bore housing, pistons ,swashplate in a Denso. Maybe the end housings...
Parkplace in Dallas does a huge business. I'll talk to their parts department on the reliability of the Benz rebuilds.

Dave, do you know if that part number holds for the '92 500E's? Also, I see the Denso marketed as OEM. Did MB (or Bosch or someone else) manufacture the original ones? have they been shown to be any better?

Re: where and how much for a new 124.034 (E420) a/c compress

I'm not davem..

But the compressor in all W124's is made by Denso. The 300e's had a 15cc compressor which was later changed to 17cc's. The 500/420's started with 8 rib belt which was changed with the fan tensioner to the 6 rib belt.

Amazon is the cheapest place for a new Denso compressor(made in Japan) in the USA.

I just bought a Denso from AutohausAZ to replace my factory NipponDenso unit. You will have to reuse the existing connector fitting for the new compressor. It's an easy swap. I've had no problems with it since I installed it in June.

Hi,

Here are some pics of my new Denso, installed summer 2011. It was ordered based on PN #000 234 02 11 and it was Plug&Play. Seems to be equal to the one Jon has.

Enclosed two pics of my damaged AC-compressor too, a tragic view. It seems like one of the pistons got seized and the debris produced start ruin the other pistons. I guess it all happened due to lack of maintenance, so maintenance is important!

Cheers

An important fact about the A/C compressor is piston pressure. I changed the Compressor 2 times in less than a year because of low pressure.
Original 19 years old unit was not blowing cold like it used to, replaced with re manufactured unit which turned out to have low pressure as well.
Third one was Good, A used US unit.

I have no idea on used or rebuilt prices. But at $200 for a new one on amazon- why mess with anything else? For the correct PAG oil without dyes and stop leak I got it at NAPA. I think it was PAG 46 from memory.
New compressor come with a charge, but needed oil for the dryer, evap etc when I did a complete flush. Evacuated over night and charge with a 1#, then did a dry nitrogen after recovery, then final charge by weight.
