Indeed, this is an electrical part as noted by the EPC - group 82 (electrical system) and subgroup 120 (pane wiper!)

Guys, what are you using for wiper refills? I don't need the entire blade - I just need the rubber part. I know this sounds like an absurdly simple thing to find, but I want to make sure I get the right part --- I just went through this exercise on a w210 where the rubber insert is a special 640mm Bosch part ---- most everyone in the w210 universe buys generic parts store 26" rubber inserts which are actually too long .... so I want to make sure I get the right part for the w124.

As far as I can tell, the wiper rubber is 208-820-00-45. (By the way, I remember the dot next to the P/N in the EPC means *something* ... I just cannot remember what it means)...

However, when doing a search online for this part (hoping to find a Bosch part), I get the ENTIRE BLADE. See below from FCP Euro:

Looking up a parts Rev site also nets the ENTIRE BLADE:

Looking up RM European nets these two Bosch options, but again, these are the entire blade (albeit inexpensive at $8.92).

So what does the brain-trust say? Do I give up and just buy the entire blade? Or is there some super secret way to just get the rubber insert?

@Jlaa, the rubber refill for the factory 124 (or, 124/202) blade is p/n: 000-824-36-27-01

HOWEVER, as of a few months ago, this part number was showing "To be discontinued when inventory is depleted" in Paragon. There were plenty available at the time - hundreds in stock. Unfortunately, the RevParts dealers prematurely changed it to "Discontinued" so you can't order from Naperville or other RP sites (link). You have to contact a dealer directly, ask them to check current inventory in Paragon.

MSRP was $7.50, discount under $6 each. I find they typically last several years. Highly recommend buying a few of the refills while you still can. 2-3 should last you a decade or more, depending how much you use the wiper and/or park in sunlight. I am not aware of any aftermarket refill that will fit the factory blade - if one exists, that would be sweet. I also prefer the OE/Genuine blade, not aftermarket... the OE blade is good quality stuff IMO.

Thank you! BTW what does the dot mean in the EPC screenshot next to 208-820-00-45 (and why does the EPC show 208-820-00-45 and not 000-824-36-27-01)?

Nemigaparts also shows the 208 part number! 🤔

I don't know what the dot means on the Nemigaparts site. Remember that is not a "real" EPC, it's an EPC extract (minus footnotes).

In the real EPC (or XPISS), a dot/period next to the description indicates that item is a sub-component of the next larger assembly. In this case, it means callout #78 (rubber insert/refill) comes with higher level assembly #75 (complete wiper blade with refill).

000-824-36-27-01 does not exist in the EPC, this is an example of where the EPC was never updated with a newer/superceded part number. The supercession only exists in Paragon.

@Jlaa, are you not obsessed with the small yellow UV sensitive dot that indicates when the blade should be changed? Its kinda the only reason I throw the whole thing out when its time. Otherwise id be all over the refill route too.

Welll…. My car came to me in 2016 with a 124/202 wiper blade but no such sticker. I figured that it is time now, in 2024, to replace the refill, after finally learning about the existence of the black/yellow dot on my beater 210 that I bought in 2023! 😅

I love that its actually part of the blade housing. Like integrated in with a little window. A shocking find with todays MB parts and attention to detail. :)

Hmmmmmm. I don’t think I am knowledgeable enough to know what you are referring to with “little window”. The dot is just a sticker on my 210’s wiper blade?

Okay, I replaced the wiper insert with the 000-824-36-27-01 part.
Interestingly, the instructions that came with the package make it seems as if the package could have contained one of two styles of rubber inserts --- either the metal-clip-with-two-metal-rods kind of insert, or the plastic-backed-and-secured-by-black-end-caps kind of insert.

The insert I took off was the former kind. The insert I received (new) and installed was the latter kind.

Jlaa, did your dealer tell you how many are left in the warehouse? And/or, if Paragon still shows "NLA when stock depleted"?

:apl:

The dot turns yellow when time to replace does it not?

Reminds of an ole country song from decades ago, it goes like this: Darlin' ...if my nose was full of money, I'd blow it all on you, but its snot.
