YouTuber buys 500E (Video - Hoovies Garage)

Here's a list of the top ten earners in 2020 - Hoovie's a piker - unbelievable...

I've heard of exactly one of those channels. And have never viewed any of them.

Guessing my interests don't intersect much with their audiences.

I watch a lot of Youtube. Probably more than broadcast TV. Incredible learning tool, if you head to the right places.

Well yeah, if you insist on no reserve or KBB trade-in value reserves, you can get 80% sell-through. Guess Gerry will have to list his Gullwing elsewhere though, tsk!

I don't trust Cars & Bids. Its pretty clear that they are either woefully inept, or just trying to scam you.

Check this out. This Type R sold on Bring a Trailer. A section of the floor board was totally toasted. It says "A rusty section of the driver-side floor pan was replaced by the seller with steel bolts, brackets, bonds, and underbody liner as shown above." They even showed photos in the listing so everyone knew.

The car showed up on Cars & Bids two years later. Not one mention of the floor being totally roached. No photos of it either and they purposely didn't take any photos of that part. So that means either they didn't do their research by Googling the VIN, or they decided to hide it.

To be fair, they're not selling the car. They're providing a platform for people to sell cars where they can submit pictures. It's no different from any other selling platform. I've seen plenty of shady deals on Craigslist but i'm not going to blame Craig for it.

Big difference.

CL is totally self serve and doesn't earn their revenue based on the selling price of an item.

While CnB, BaH and the rest:
Determine which lots are listed.
Decide the Reserve.
Write the copy.
Earn revenue based on the selling price.
And, of course, allow shady shit to occur.

Fortunately this side of the pond we have none of those idioms.

I hope that trend doesn't take off any time soon. I much prefer buying cars from private buyers with no competitive bids or middle men.

@JC220, don't worry, there will be a BaH/C&B on your side of the pond soon, if there isn't already... if there's money to be made, someone will do it.

HEY, you should check into that! Joe's Bring a Bid! JBaB! Or Cars & Trailers?

:ROFLMAO:

No. That is not fair.

Cars & Bids gets a cut of the selling price. It is 100% in their best interest to have a car sell for the most amount of money possible. They committed fraud by withholding information in order to make more money.

So does every other auction, whether Manheim , Copart , IAA , Adesa or any other auction. The seller provides the pictures and discloses information. Some auctions provide inspection services, some don't.

If you're not sure how auctions work, it's simple: If you raise your hand and get the winning bid, you own it. If you don't like the way that works, then auctions are not for you.

I'm not sure if BaT does any kind of background check on the interwebs either. AFAIK they just want to see the title, photos, and then screw up whatever description the seller provides.

I haven't had cable since February 2014, that's 7 years. I don't watch Netflix and similar. Strictly YouTube for me.

Isn't that an innate characteristic of laissez-faire capitalism, across all industries? (Information buried in small print is the same as withheld information)

CnB focusing on "modern classics."

2016 Infiniti Q50S Red Sport 400
2011 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 LT
2011 Jaguar XJ
2011 Buick Regal CXL Turbo
2015 Mercedes-Benz E350 4MATIC Wagon
1983 Buick Riviera Convertible
2006 Mercedes-Benz S350
2011 Porsche Cayenne
2019 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCrew
2016 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe

They have an 80% sell rate (allegedly) because they're operating a used car auction site. They sell used cars. Nothing "classic" about any of those listings.

That's a great point. Many of these cars (half of them?) are relatively late-model cars with 70K - 140K miles that are sliding down to the bottom of the depreciation curve. In my view, "used cars" = cars that will continue to depreciate. These cars are meant to be used up.

When I think of "modern classics" I think of stuff that is done depreciating, and might have the opportunity to appreciate. Some of the stuff is interesting like the 1983 Riviera.

The Riv might be "interesting" to a few people, but it's a used car.
That was designed in the 1970's.
And is Front Wheel Drive.
With 140hp dragging around nearly two tons of Malaise-era steel and plastics.

In my books, it's neither"modern" nor "classic."

;)

holy fak... maybe we need a CaB 'Hooptie' thread?

my fave quote from the comments section of that Jetta:

"Didn't think there were any 2004 GLIs left that weren't completely trashed by now, thank god I was wrong! This thing is incredible!"

100k in, and they can't figure out how to turn off the airbag light? #sadpanda

Yeah! And like ---- why are the CV joint boots so gunked up with leaking...... something-or-rather-grease? After 16K miles?

He's on one of those televised car auction broadcasts. When they cut to him, I change the channel and then sometimes vomit.

I really don't get the appeal of his idiocy.
