I am irritated that his definition of “really close to being an excellent condition car” is nowhere near my definition of “excellent condition car.”

I appreciate that he is honest about not doing any of his own work and not getting into any mechanical intimacy with his machines. I am not a mechanical rockstar myself, but I find that getting somewhat mechanically intimate with the repair of one’s car gives you a view on what could really be done to make it “excellent”. .... like control arms, bushings, exhaust, resonator, tandem pump, EZL, ETA, wiring harnesses top and bottom, ignition switch, fuel lines, brake everything, oil tubes, timing chain guides, etc ad nauseum.

I’m not sure I can even call what this guy is doing a “business” as opposed to just yapping his gums for something like days of our lives entertainment. Interesting that this was Charles Koch’s car though, and that his executive couldn’t figure out how to take care of the damned thing. But this is the kind of activity that I think will dry up in a post CV19 world. Like, whoever funded this business model will likely make different capital allocation and deployment decisions in the future, out of necessity, wisdom or some combination of the two.

Im in the process of developing a channel that will focus mostly on rare amg and mercedes cars and regular stuff in between. My goal is to do a video on a 500e and have already reached out to a member from here who is not too far from me. His 500e is red and together with my red c43 and another red c36 this would be three rare color classic mbs never seen together. I want people to see this kind of stuff. I know a guy with rare euro spec grey market SEC model and manual converted c36 amg, person with 11 c43 amgs......all these people I plan to reach out to. My goal is to bring these cars and their stories to life through my creative process. I am not doing this to jump from car to car and gain views and followers like some of these guys do. I truly think most of these classic benzes deserve to be brought to light and Ill make it my mission to do that.

I am just waiting for this corona to pass and will start bringing content. I am sorry but channels like hoovies garage or even legit street cars are hard to watch. Its all recorded on cellphones and theres absolutely nothing about it that showcases any of the cars and brings their beauty to life.

My channel will be a mix of doug demuro(information and stats wise) combined with more of a cinematic look that really focuses on showing the true beauty of these cars.

I think he's making a mistake. A long time ago the content used to be focused 85% on the cars themselves. Now, the content is seemingly focused on himself and the "dumb" buying/repairs decisions that he makes --- the cars are just a prop.

Bentley issue could well be a fuel pressure problem that manifests itself as a miss, caused by gummed up fuel lines. For any of us who own a W126 gasser, we've probably ran across this.

Its crazy thinking back I was sitting and thinking how these guys have the best jobs in the world. Now anyone can literally do it. Itll take time but the system is in place for anyone to do it and guys like hoovie certainly have enough followers and make enough money.

People are just not creative enough.

A good channel to watch is "peteolicious" but even that gets a bit repetitive

I was invited to go down to VIR and participate in the filming of the on-track scenes.

This is as close as anyone got to the "presenters." No meet and greet, no autographs, no handshakes. And they were incredibly late for their appearance in the paddock.

I would describe their driving skills as "adequate."





Here's my little handful. I don't think she got even a moment of on-screen time.
A lime green Exige ended up shiny side down on the tire barriers outside of Turn 10 during the warm ups.



Much of the driving was choreographed in such a way for them to look like driving heroes.
The show's producers promised a TG schwag package in exchange for hauling our butts down there for filming... still waiting for it to arrive.
Had a good time tossing back beers that night at the Tavern with some of the pro drivers who were there to coach and drive for the filming.


GM was testing the Z07 package on a C6 mule the day before and after filming. The engineers were definitely car guys.

There isn't a car channel that I regularly view.

Many moons ago, I watched Salomondrin (embarassing to even admit) and D Demuro (before he went to work for Autotrader). It's all garbage now. Everybody selling something. Motortrend wasn't terrible a few years ago. TST was formulaic but there were some interesting cars.

What about a thread where we share some of the Youtube's quality original content creators? There might be some controversial topics, but maybe limit conversation and just make it a show and tell format. I've got plenty to share.

I did enjoy hoovies channel up to about a year ago. Then the theme is all "dumb" and "clickbait" based so I find myself ignoring his uploads. His content was much better before he got loaded off of You Tube. I dont find Lamborghini videos particularly interesting. As much as I'd love to own one, every you tuber and his cat has a Lambo now so it got old fast.

Surprise Surprise… but there are videos which attempt to explain the monetization that some of the top YouTuber's make, on.... YouTube. It can be lucrative but (as might be expected) if you are in the Doug D. or Scotty K category.

I don't think they get anything for quantity of subscribers, but the more subscriptions, the more likely those people will view new content uploaded. Even then, it takes an awful lot of time in front of the camera, and then in front of the computer editing, and then you need to keep a constant stream of content flowing. Exactly. Influencers are paid - sometimes VERY well - for a positive review/video on new products. This came up at my job recently, discussing advertising/marketing budget... number dropped was $50k that one particular influencer required to gush about new product X. With no guarantees of views or sales. IIRC they decided to pass on that opportunity.

If you think influencers are unbiased, think again.

The importer of the lifts I use just signed some sort of deal with W. Carini. I'm sure it's a similar arrangement.

Hoovie is quite nuts, as he freely admits. He plays up the crazy for the clicks, sure, but he's still baseline nuts. Therefore: insanity is the only reason one would prefer to keep a Mark 8 Blob over a 500e.
