Thanks @maw1124 for finding this one!
Overall it looks like a nice car. Presentation is better than average, and it has correct 500E headlights. However, the description is extremely thin (zero history?!), and there are a few oddities visible in the photos:
- Front door panels have a speaker grille, but this car does not have Sound System (code 810)
- Unusual wear on passenger seat bolster for only 93kkm / 60kmi
- Blizzak snow tires imply the car is driven in winter
- ZERO photos of the undercarriage
- Bolt heads on front of engine appear re-plated
- EZL installed is for a 4.2L engine, not 5.0L

1993 MERCEDES-BENZ (W124) 500E
KEY FACTS
- This Mercedes-Benz 500E is a collectible modern classic ‘super saloon’, specified in the lesser-seen hue of Bornite Metallic.
- Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8, delivering around 322bhp to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission.
- This reportedly unmodified example has covered approximately 92,700 kilometres from new.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
- With its engineering department occupied with the development of the new S-Class in 1989, Mercedes-Benz commissioned Porsche to redesign the W124-era chassis to fit the 5.0-litre ‘M119’ V8, and alter the suspension and drivetrain to suit.
- The new model was also assembled by Porsche at the ‘Reutter-Bau’ plant in Zuffenhausen, as its widened wings allegedly couldn’t fit through the W124 assembly line at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen. The vehicles were reportedly transported back and forth between ‘Reutter-Bau’ and Sindelfingen for assembly, painting, engine installation, and final inspection in a process which took 18 days per car.
- The 500E featured uprated 500SL front brake discs with four-piston callipers, a 38mm wider track, 23mm lower ride height, wider tyres, flared wheel arches, side skirts and a front air dam. Inside, all 500Es are equipped with heated leather-trimmed Recaro seats.
- This example is finished in Bornite Metallic over a black leather-trimmed cabin, offset by burr walnut inlays.
- Equipment includes a sunroof, air conditioning, heated and electrically adjustable front seats with two-position memory, and a Mercedes-Benz stereo.
- Accompanying the sale is the owner’s manual and service book.
CONDITION
- Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.
- The most recent roadworthiness inspection was reportedly conducted on 5 February 2024, resulting in a clean pass.
SERVICE HISTORY
- The car was last serviced in February 2024 at 90,500 kilometres by Mercedes-Benz Classic Centre in Gstaad.
- The previous service was carried out by Mercedes-Benz Italia.

The description of this consignment is, to the best of the seller’s knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Collecting Cars requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller and performs a level of due diligence. However, potential buyers must independently satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description. Potential buyers should view or arrange inspections as well as conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to bid or buy.
Please note that it is not uncommon for classic or collectible vehicles to have received cosmetic repairs in the past, either to rectify damage or refresh appearance, and this work may be undetectable even upon visual inspection. Unless there is an explicit statement by the seller to the contrary, please assume that any vehicle could have had bodywork or paintwork during its life. Furthermore, photographs may not reflect the true colour or full condition of the vehicle. It is a bidder’s responsibility to satisfy themselves of the colour and condition of a vehicle, including its interior and the existence of any remedial bodywork or paintwork, before committing to bid or buy. This includes by raising enquiries with the seller in the comments section.
For vehicles, unless otherwise stated, potential buyers should also assume that any cherished registration may be retained by the seller. Please see our Terms and Conditions for full details.
