FOR SALE 1994 E500 Euro, color-changed Silver/Black, 63kkm, BaT auction (Jacksonville, FL) - Blue Ridge restored

Staff member
UPDATE: This car is still available for sale. See post #23 below.

No affiliation. $43k Blue Ridge invoice including a substantial amount of mechanical restoration, and a glass-out, doors-off, color-change respray. Question is, why would a 39kmi car need this much of a resto? :scratchchin:

Finned oil pan (Japan accessory) is cool. Incorrect rear resonator, less cool... pics 466+468. Flieben/Fox cat-back would be a nice fix IMO. At least it has factory cats with heat shielding intact (pic 464). Odd that the car received so much work but the rear subframe-to-chassis bushings were not replaced. Unusual aftermarket alternator, hope it's not a "high output" type with poor idle output. Never heard of any 036 with the front radiator support pushed in... that would have damaged/destroyed the original bumper. Pity that many photos are super dark. Wrong center console wood was refinished (has fader hole plugged), rear console wood is cracked. No passenger airbag?! Wonder how many working IRCL fobs are included.

Euro 1994 Mercedes-Benz E500
This 1994 Mercedes-Benz E500 is a European-market example that is said to have spent time in Japan before being brought to the US in 2020 and acquired by the current owner later that year. Work since then was performed by Blue Ridge Mercedes in Lilburn, Georgia, which included rebuilding the rear differential, overhauling the suspension and brake systems, and replacing the water pump, thermostat, windshield, lower body cladding, and more as outlined below. The car is finished in silver over black leather upholstery and is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 linked with a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. It rides on 17″ Evo-style [period-correct OE Evo High-Sheen] wheels mounted over yellow-finished calipers and is further equipped with a self-leveling rear suspension, a sunroof, heated power-adjustable front seats, and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo. This W124 E500 shows 63k kilometers (~39k miles) and is now offered at no reserve on dealer consignment with service records for work performed under current ownership, a tool kit, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Florida title in the current owner’s name.
Finished from the factory in Black Pearl Metallic (199), the car was repainted silver in April 2024. Replacement body cladding was also retrofitted under current ownership, at which time the front grille, washer fluid nozzles, headlight lenses, right side mirror adjustment motor, hood emblem, and windshield were also replaced. Details include a power sunroof, fog lights, a retractable antenna, and AMG-branded exhaust finishers.
The 17″ Evolution 2-style wheels are mounted with 245/45 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires showing 2023 date codes. The E500 featured a wider track and lower ride height when compared with other W124 models, and it shared its front disc brakes with the contemporary R129 SL. Work in April 2024 consisted of changing the power steering fluid and filter, installing Bilstein B8 shock absorbers up front, sealing the suspension tandem pump reservoir, refurbishing the brake calipers, and replacing the hydraulic fluid reservoir to pump hose, rear SLS accumulators, brake lines, front strut mounts and boots, and the brake pads and rotors.
The heated power-adjustable front bucket seats and a rear bench are upholstered in black leather and joined by wood trim that accents the dashboard, center console, and door panels. A Blaupunkt Bremen cassette stereo was fitted under current ownership, and additional work consisted of refurbishing the headliner, sunroof shade, rear sunshade mechanism, B-pillar trim, and rear amplifiers in addition to replacing the passenger front seat headrest gear, seat belt buckles, and dome light bulbs. A Gloria fire extinguisher is mounted to the front of the driver’s seat bottom.
A four-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation that includes a 260-km/h speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer shows 63k kilometers (~39k miles), approximately 1k of which have been added under current ownership. The instrument cluster binnacle, gears, and bulbs were replaced under current ownership.
The 5.0-liter M119 DOHC V8 was factory rated at 315 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque. Work in April 2024 involved changing the fluids and replacing the following components:
  • Valve cover gaskets
  • Camshaft seals and actuators
  • Spark plugs
  • Crankcase breather hoses
  • Water pump & thermostat
  • Coolant temperature sensor
  • Lower radiator & bypass hoses
  • Lower oil pan, oil pickup tube, & oil level sender seals
  • Camshaft oiler tubes
  • Front crankshaft seal
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a Quaife limited-slip differential. The differential mounts and transmission oil pan and filter were replaced, the LH module was tuned, and the differential was rebuilt. The Carfax report is free of accidents or other reported damage with an initial entry in May 2020.

Great looking car from pics! I think the Owner is rolling the dice on this E500 for him to recover his investment he has get some big bucks. Purchase price ? for 39K mile car + Jono’s $45K invoice. He probably needs around $80K just to break even.

Jono’s invoices cover a lot of issues and shows a lot of replacement parts. Almost seems ridiculous for a car with only 39K miles on it.

In the description, and one of the invoices, it mentions the LH module being tuned.
I didn't know that could be done?
I was only aware of swapping 1992 ones in?

Not a color change re-spary with us, but rather came that way from Japan. What we did do is take the paint work on the car to another level, I like when they look Really Pretty.

We didn't do the bushings as they were still Perfect as as y'all know, getting the correct ones OE MB is, well, about impossible... Haven't tried the re-pops from japan yet, one day.

This car didn't come with the big boy stereo, only front and rear drivers, I haven't seen many that way TBH but the fader plug was there/wood was as y'all see it when she arrived.

I did put the worlds best driver in for the dash though, can't beat the Scanspeak 12M.

I've driven an 036 or two over the years....and this is a Really Nice Car. Unlike most Everything else that comes in the shop this one is Ready to Roll and works as it should. Who ever does buy it will get an actual 036 experience and not some muddied, watered down affair as we know happens on BaT or any auction site far to often these days.

I will be posting some more photos of the work that was done....I recently invested in a pair or these Rayban Meta glasses, makes snapping photos and short videos of work we are doing a Breeze by comparison!

Y'all have any questions or would like to chat about the car directly, shoot me a text 404.805.1357 I'm up at the folks taking care of Things this holiday but will otherwise be available:)

:jono:

I would have hoped to see the price creeping upward by now but it hasn’t budged off of $45K yet. I guess this will be a last minute fight to the death.:jono:

I'm going to be very surprised to see this one make anywhere near any kind of record money, or market-beating final auction price. Owner will make their @BlueRidgeMB money back, plus a little bit more, but this ain't nowhere near a $100K car.

Few hours left. Naturally, the questions about registering in PRK are just now appearing.

Link to details about legally importing a gray-market (non-USA-spec) 500E into California:

Well, A little over 3.5 hours to go and at $52K. I think there will be a flurry of bids in the last hour or so. This car is in excellent condition and should go a lot higher.

Personally, I think the Owner should have waited until at least spring to sell this car.

Sold for $74k, or $77.7k with fees... low $80's all in with T/T/T/T. No word if the new owner is in PRK or not.

Top 3 bidders were ~$70k+ which shows good support for that price ballpark. Top 5 bidders:

$74,000 bid placed by Sonnys11 <-- Winner
$73,500 bid placed by samham24
$69,696 bid placed by Iamkhanz
$63,500 bid placed by speedster66
$61,000 bid placed by AMGfun

Now we wait and see if the new owner posts here.

I thought the Owner needed about $80K (post #3) and he got pretty close. I hope it shows up on the 500Eboard.:)

Something happened with the winning bidder, don't know what... but the car is still available. Guessing the price will be in the ballpark of the top bidders of the auction.

Very nice car. I wish I had a 744 silver E500. Also, an example of a w124 E500 that has ASR with LSD installed!
Congrats to the buyer. @gsxr

Hello @gsxr

on the bringatrailer listing, it states "LH module tuned" What does this mean? You can tune an LH module similar to ECU chip tuning? thank you.

See post #6 above. This was some embellishment on the part of the BaHaT auction copywriter. No "tuning" is possible for additional power, because the EZL timing maps are fixed.
