It seems my drivers wiper has a hydraulic arm that is failing and extends the wiper out all the way and it's hitting the car at the edge of window? Why?

Your car is showing 2 wiper blades. What model is it? It’s not a 124.

If the blade is extending to far you probably have to remove the mechanism and repair or replace it.

I have w140s and these pics are from my S280 when I repaired its wiper.

You likely have a stripped plastic gear due to age / lack of lubrication. Take it out, strip, clean and inspect it.

(Note this car has 46k miles on it only. The mech had seized up a little from sitting around)

Yes in the first pic...it pushes that arm out but fails to pull it back in...I can't tell how that could happen...

Hey...how do I remove that piece from the car? It looks like I'm gonna have to remove that too piece with a ton of the hex head screws holding it down....like 30

That arm pushing out and not back in is my only problem. Other wise it works fine. Can't I just prevent it from coming out?

Yes remove the screws and trim.

It's clearly broken and in need of repair. If you want a straight R&R job get a good used wiper.

Can I modify it to a normal wiper arm instead?
Erm - no. It will be less effort to just fix it properly.
