**Please read all details prior to bidding**

Here is your chance to own a very rare, pre merger AMG!

The VIN would not register with ebay, it is WDB2100721A340779

The car is a white 1997 E60 AMG. As far as I know there were only 200 of these produced, even less had the flared fenders that this one does. All W210 E60's were special order from the dealer, they took a standard E50 and sent it to Affalterbach for the upgrade. When it was new this car cost almost $200,000!

Options on the car include:
Z98 SPECIAL ORDER VEHICLE
220 PARKTRONIC SYSTEM (PTS)
242 FRONT SEAT RH ELECTRIC ADJUSTABLE WITH MEMORY
249 AUTOMATICALLY DIPPING INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR
275 MEMORY PACKAGE (DRIVER SEAT, STRG. COL., MIRROR)
345 RAIN SENSOR
363 INCOMPLETE DELIVERY SLIP (FOR SAS AND KWS)
414 ELECTRIC TILT/SLIDE SUNROOF IN GLASS VERSION
431 3-POINT SEAT BELT REAR CENTER

954 EQUIPMENT PACKAGE FOR AVANTGARDE VEHICLES
957 AMG - ENGENEERING PACKAGE
988 REG. DOC. AND COC CERTIFICATE WITH EC TYPE LABEL
580A LEATHER, CONDOR
149 POLAR WHITE

It features a 6.0l hemi V8 that has aproximately 400hp and 420ft/lbs of torque, 0-100km in 4.9. The flared fenders and massive 10" wide rear wheels let others know that this is no ordinary E Class Mercedes.

Car has 132,645km on the clock. The only bad spot on the body is a few chips on the left rear wheel well(picture included). There is a huge custom stereo installed including DVD, amps, component speakers, and subwoofer.

The car is currently in Nagoya, Japan ready for worldwide export. Please check local import laws, I do not know the laws for every country. For Canada the car will be legal for import in January 2012. If the reserve is met, or "Buy it Now", world wide shipping(port to port) will be included in the sale.

I am sure that I am forgetting to list a lot of info, so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me.

FS: 1997 W210 E60 AMG, $25,750 (Alberta, Canada)

This might not be the best place to post this car, but I have heard it is a good place to get the word around.

Here is your chance to own a very rare, pre-merger AMG!

The car is a white European spec 1997 E60 AMG. As far as I know there were only 200 of these produced, brand new it was around $200k. Eveything that I have been able to find out about the car leads me to believe that this car was a dealer ordered E60 converted in Affalterbach.

Car has 132,XXX km/82,XXX miles on the clock. It has been completely serviced, well over 100 hours were spent cleaning and detailing it and the wheels were refinished and fitted with brand new Michelin's.

The DVD/Nav is all Japanese, and the speakers could use replacing. There is a 4 channel amp as well as a sub amp installed.

Other than the audio system, this car needs absolutly nothing but someone to enjoy it.

It is located in Alberta, Canada.

Technically, there were no offical E60's. They were all E50's that had their motors replaced with a 6.0l motor. So the datacard should show E50 and the engine serial will not match the engine serial of the car. So to actually prove its a E60, you should take a photo of the engine stamp (which is more or less your proof it is a E60)

Unfortunately, this vehicle can not be titled in the US, so your left with Canadian buyers only.

Thanks for the input.

Here is a pic of the engine stamp.

I was at the dealer today to get a data card print out, and on the sheet it says there is a production sheet for this vehicle, is there any way to track this down?

That should address anyones concerns when/if they pull the datacard on the vehicle.

LOL, now we have enough for an Edmonton GTG until one of us sells ;-)

Driving Impressions

Matthew hooked me up with his dad to drive the E60 last night and I had a blast! I'll take back all my bad thoughts about the W210 chassis, at least when it comes to this AMG-tuned version. Talk about tight...it was a real one-finger operation to keep it steady at highway speeds, which was my biggest issue with the non-AMG models.

The car itself is striking in white with very little use showing in terms of rock chips. It looks quite solid; obviouisly lower and the dished 18"x10" back rims with 285-series Michelins are another clue to a serious purpose. For some reason, there is a slight gap between the lower cladding and body just behind the front wheels, which is the same on both sides. The trunk was very clean and dominated by a thumpin big stereo. Why bother, I'm thinking, with that glorious V8 to listen to.

The seating position is great and, compared to my W124, you sit higher. Rear visibility is a bit more restricted so the mirrors are very useful. The black leather was attacked by a can of Armour-All and glistened a bit oddly but that should wear off. The only wear visible was on the passenger's side bolster, which suffered from bad touch-ups with a felt pen. I'd order a Leatherique kit to cure that. Gauges are working and very visible with the AMG-white background. The fancy proximity detector went off for no reason at an intersection and I'd find a way to permanently disconnect that nanny. And those aftermarket Xenon lamps set off a "bulb failure" warning with each start-up; again, I'd budget to return the stock items asasp.

Continuing the theme from inside, under the hood the engine was exceptionally clean. There were slight variations from the 036, with a battery-boost terminal a la Audi for example. The AMG-stamped engine number was front and center on the block.

We went for a drive to the nearest freeway and I dipped the throttle as soon as possible. No hesitation, she just hooked-up and took off. "No replacement for displacement" comes to mind! Its a real point-and-squirt car - with razor-sharp steering I only had to think about changing lanes and we were there. The ride is stiff, perhaps even more than the modified suspension on need2speed. That payback is immense and I was lovin it. I tried to drift a few on-ramps but the grip was tenacious and speeds too high to try and discover the break-away point. The cabin remained quiet and road-noise is well dampened. The aero body style must also contribute to a lack of noise. When prodded, the engine makes an appropriate growl out the back twin-tip exhaust and I understand that the resonator was removed to encourage this symphony.

All-in-all I'm highly impressed with what AMG did to the W210 as an independent tuner. Thanks to Brian (Matt's father) for putting up with my giddiness and not being too obvious when grabbing for something to brace against ;-)

Re: FS: 1997 W210 E60 AMG - $35k (Alberta, Canada)

Thanks for the feedback Dean, much appreciated. I am glad you were able to meet up with my dad and take the car for a nice drive. You definitely had him on edge, he was not expecting that kind of test drive.

I will be keeping my eyes open for some OEM xenon headlights, I am still pretty upset that they were taken during shipping, I was really glad when I found out that they were with the car, but lots of loose parts have been going missing while cars are in transit now. If I can get to Edmonton sometime this summer, I will be making some changes to the stereo as well.

Re: FS: 1997 W210 E60 AMG - $35k (Alberta, Canada)

SilverStar, that car looks awesome. I wonder how many W210 E60's were built... I bet it was a frighteningly small number.

If you have some free time, is there any chance you could take a few close-up photos of the intake tubes for the airbox, showing where they are routed on both sides? I found that the standard M119 airbox from a 124/129/140 will not fit on the M119 in the W210. AMG had to do something special to modify the airbox as well as the ducts (particularly on the driver's side of the airbox) to make that fit.

I also thought it was interesting that they installed dual washer fluid reservoirs...

Re: FS: 1997 W210 E60 AMG - $35k (Alberta, Canada)

Thanks gsxr!

I don't know exactly how many they built, but all the research I have done, and all the people I have asked about it all say 200, maybe less. Many were just the motor swap, less than half of the E60's I have seen pictures of don't have the body modification or the 2 peice wheels. I would love to know for a fact how many we're built, but as I'm sure you know AMG is pretty tight lipped about cars built around this time.

I will go thru my hundreds of pictures and try to find one for you, if not I will get one.

They built as least 39 of them. If you can determine when Brians was built, that might give you an indicator of how many more were built for the year.

This car was built Jan/97.

You got me thinking 2phast.

The last E60(W210) to be listed for sale in NA was #31(the black one the owner claimed to be a 6.3L). That was a 96, I have the VIN somewhere. It would be interesting to look into this more in depth. They built less than 39 in 1996, if I can find out when the black one was built we will know how many were built in that time frame and have a better idea of total numbers, in theory anyways.

Edit - Found the VIN for the black E60, delivery date was 96/11/12

The block stamp picture I previously posted was from #31. I was investigating that car at one point. The 6.3l claim was shot down immediately (6.3l engines do have block stamps that indicate 6.3)

Going to be hard to figure out how many more were built, believe there was roughly another 8 months of production left for 1997

Re: FS: 1997 W210 E60 AMG - $35k (Alberta, Canada)

True, figuring out how many were actually built would be quite tough. However if production started in 06/96 and the built 31 up till 11/12/96, that's aprox 1.7 cars/week or 6.9/month. Between 11/12/96 and 01/30/97(7 weeks) 9 cars were built at a rate of 1.2 cars/week.

So being conservative and saying they built 1.5 cars/week, over a 14 month(06/96-08/97) production run that would be 84 cars.

I know the numbers are rough estimates and there are a lot of variables, but it does shed some more light on the subject, for me anyways.

Those assumptions are probably as good as it is going to get (given the information), unless we have some actualy build numbers or see one for sale with a later build date.

Re: FS: 1997 W210 E60 AMG - $35k (Alberta, Canada)

Here is a E60 Brabus 1996. Only 1 in Norway. Seller claims it is original.
http://www.finn.no/finn/car/used/object?finnkode=29130759&ov=web

Chassi# is WDB2102721A175826.

It comes up as a M119 420. I guess Brabus juiced it up..

Brabus and all other tuners (except AMG of course) tune the vehicle after-the-fact. That is, the car is built, sold then shipped off for tuning. VIN decoding on these vehicles will only tell you how the car started its life and it will not incorporate any modifications.

Re: FS: 1997 W210 E60 AMG - $35k (Alberta, Canada)

SilverStar,

I was misinformed by the seller. You are correct that #31 is a 6.0L as the motor stamp indicates.

I'm really glad to see another E60 and a beautiful white one at that!!!

I wish I could buy it to have an ebony/ivory collection!

Re: FS: 1997 W210 E60 AMG - $35k (Alberta, Canada)

Glad to see you here MOFLO, so you still have yours? I was under the assumption that you had sold it.

The car is tentatively sold as of now, just replaced ignition coils and spark plugs for the possible new owner as it was running a little rough.

Re: FS: 1997 W210 E60 AMG - $35k (Alberta, Canada)

SilverStar,

I still have it. Actually, I'm glad I didn't sell it. It is such a pleasure to drive. I just finish doing a full flush of every fluid in the car, new Koni adjustable shocks, and will be finishing up the suspension mods next week to have fully adjustable camber/caster/toe in the front and rear.

I had the pleasure to drive the C63, C63 Coupe, C63 Black Series, SL63, E63, CLK63 Black Series, SL65 Black Series, and AMG SLS over the years on the renowned Laguna Seca Raceway. Granted these are all amazing vehicles in their own right with all the latest technology. However after driving these cars, I honestly still love driving my E60 over all the other newer AMG models. There is just something about how the W210 AMG E60 chassis and power-train is setup that has great feedback in car control/stance, throttle response, and that amazing torque! Now, I'm not saying I wouldn't jump at a chance to own any of the latest AMG models with all the modern conveniences, but I know something would be missing in the feeling of the newer car. The closest newer AMG the comes close would be the CLK63 Black Series or AMG SLS.

I hope whom ever buys your E60 will truly enjoy the car!

Price drop bump, now $25,750.

The stereo head unit has now been replaced with a new JVC, heater and A/C controls have been moved back to the factory location, and new JL speakers have replaced the cracked rears.

Can a mod please change the thread title to reflect the new price please.

Hi Dean,

The headlamp malfunction has not been fixed yet, although I do have the solution, finding time is the problem.

What happen to the headlight to cause the warning light?

-MOFLO

Due to the way the aftermarket headlamps were installed it throws a bulb malfunction warning upon startup.

Re: FS: 1997 W210 E60 AMG - $35k (Alberta, Canada)

I had the same issue with the aftermarket ballast I installed with the stock headlight assembly. I have since changed to aftermarket depot HID headlights with no warning lights anymore. I took some time and adapted the self leveling headlight adjusting motors into the depot headlight assembly. All works well and I can see the road so much better!

This is a very rare and unique car, and an opportunity to own a piece of pre-merger Mercedes/AMG history. Mercedes-Benz AMG became a majority owned division of Mercedes-Benz in 1998.

Most people know about the 1999-2002 E55 AMG, but in 1996 AMG built the E50, which is basically an E55 but with an AMG 5.0L M119 engine. From their shop in Germany they built 2780 between 1996 and 1997, and none were for North America. When you ordered an E50 there was an optional E60 package, which included among other things, a 6.0L version of the M119. Horsepower was conservatively rated at 376, said to be more like 400 with almost 450lb/ft of torque. The E60 went from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds(almost on par with a Ferrari 355 of the same year) and is faster from 60-120km/h than a Ferrari Tesstarosa. Depending on how heavily optioned the car was, price tags went up to almost $200k. Very few were made.

I have owned this car since December of 2010. It has always been stored in a heated garage, and never driven in the snow or rain since I have owned it. The car is spotless absolutely everywhere, the drivers seat does show some minor wear. It has been fully serviced and inspected, and is in excellent mechanical condition. Since the pictures were taken a new JVC head unit installed, and the heater controls moved back to the factory location and new rear speakers were installed. Component speakers up front, 2 amps and a sub, were professionally installed and were in the car when I bought it.
