2019 Flieben /Leistung Autohaus 500e/e500 exhaust kit group buy

Jlaa, did you install the kit in your car yet? Just wanted to know how easy/difficult the install experience was and how fitment turned out for you

No. I will sheepishly admit that I am hoarding this kit for some long-far-off-in-the-future project. Most of the parts I've acquired are for far-in-the-future projects .....😳

I have been hoarding my own 5SR kit for several years now. It made it through the Houston Flood in 2017 despite the bottom 12 inches of the box getting wet.

I installed a new Walker DynoMax-based cat back system not long after I bought my E500 in 2003. It is still going strong although it is starting to show external Wear and tear (no holes or anything)

When it comes time for replacement, 5SR Brabus tip is going on.

Hoarders don’t sheepishly admit anything. :stickpoke:

You haven’t reached 500Eboard OG status yet, have you? Same with @nocfn ?

Ha. The clock thing is too 80s for me. I’m all about the early 90s.

Thanks Jlaa. I think we all have our own fair share of "long-far-off-in-the-future projects" :)

With the front section of the exhaust being NLA I'm thinking about getting the 5thscale kit purely as a replacement part for when my OEM exhaust gives up. Thankfully the OEM exhaust is currently in great shape,so it would be sitting on a shelf for collecting dust until the time comes

Exactly. We think alike. My OE muffler and center resonator are NEW as of 2018. I purchased the front section for when my OE front section gives up. I encourage you to pick up he front section because when is @5thscaleracer scale racer going to make a new batch? Likely never.

Funny. We do seem to think alike- I just purchased a NOS OEM resonator from r44raven. Most likely you are right, after multiple cop-outs on the group buy I'd imagine 5thscale won't be putting himself through that experience again any time soon.

Just put in on already.

Any chance I can get a full set with cats? Just bought a 1992 with rusted exhaust. Want to do the whole matching set for optimum performance and virtually eliminate the possibility of CA Smog issues.

FYI before you chuck the old setup make sure you at least hold onto the cat section (Passenger side) because the OE cats are very robust in comparison to the aftermarket catalysts. My front cross over pipe and rear cat back section will bolt onto the factory Catalyst section.

I would smog the car first with the OE setup see if it passes. If it does then hold onto the cats and replace all the rusty bits.

On the smog years just swap that OE cat in and out as needed, as an added back up i can make a center cat section for you that can be bolted in as needed.

Installed mine some time ago and it was straight forward. The only thing that gave me a hiccup was I forgot to disconnect the O2 sensor before dropping the OE exhaust 😬

It sounds great, definitely worth every bit.

(Yes the rear wheel is on the wrong side)

I love it. It's the higher rated one with the extension to reach the 500e's jack points. Made dropping the exhaust much easier. Costco or Home Depot usually has sales on it.

Thank you. I didn't realize there was more than one model. I'm a Costco member and have seen these on sale before, but have been reluctant to pull the trigger. Far easier to use, I would think, than my dragging around the floor jack and ramps or jack stands. Doesn't look like it would take a lot of room to store, either.

It definitely beats floor jacks and jack stands, especially where you need the car to be up for prolonged periods of time. That said, you still have to drag the stands around the floor and get on your hands and knees to properly position everything. I store mine under the 500E. I still prefer to use a floor jack for quick jobs that don't require me to get under the car, such as changing tires. Also, if you didn't release all of the pressure in the pump/hoses the last time you used them, re-connecting them to the pump can be difficult until any retained pressure is completely released. Other than that, they are great and I don't regret my purchase at all.

Which style tips are those? Looks great.

yes this is an OE style tip, so looking down from the top it looks like a stock tip just larger pipe. looking from the bottom up the tips are oval looking because we rotated the bent pipe 30 degrees on a horizontal axis then did the miter cut vs simply doing a 35 degree bent pipe then cutting the tip at a 90* angle.

It gives it a larger opening and a smoother bend, minor details if you will....

Well dangit, I want one but yer sold out! Can't just change the tips on that Brabus-style one ya got left?

No worth the time and money it’s a different muffler, different rear pipe angle, different muffler bracket orientation. The canister sits too low to accommodate the Oe style tip.

i can do another run but I need 10 guys to make it worth while.

the last group buy people dropped out midway so I got stuck with parts.

Hello fellow forum members I received PM from a fellow member asking the questions below. I feel that the best way to answer his questions would be from others who have purchased this exhaust.
Good or bad experiences feel free to share.

Hi,
I read about this exhaust a couple of times,
But I didn’t read anywhere if will be any horsepower extra to get?
The sound in the videos is very nice.
But how will it be in ordinary “cruising”?
Is the car still comfortably to drive?
And what will the complete exhaust cost?

Best Regards

Question as I plan to take this to the indy to install, cat back OE tips.
Nothing OE is required for this to mate up, specifically the graphite ring, 126 997 00 41? The ring is specific to the recess in the OE resonator, but since that's deleted it's no longer a part of the system?

The only parts that were not included in the box from @5thscaleracer were the bolts to the flange of the other cat pipe, two bolts, which I did get the brass nuts (insert joke) and OE bolts. The gasket and bolts(2) going into the muffler were included in the kit.

Correct. You will not need the sealing ring. If you have the two flange bolts and nuts you are good to go. You may want to have new rubber hangers as well.

107 492 00 82 124-492-00-82 is the no. for the two [rubber hangers] at the cats.

129-490-00-37 is the no. for the resonator, or 5thscaleracer replacement pipe. One needed.

The two at the mufflers end may be the same as the cats.

There is an all metal beveled sealing ring (202-492-02-81) used where the crossover pipe meets the cat pipe. Mine had some "chips" out of it so I replaced it with an asbestos type ring from the local AP store. I matched it up with a common size they keep in stock.

Nice timing on your post. Just installed mine yesterday and very pleased with the tone, fit and finish. I’ll go as far as to say that it has completely upgraded my driving experience with the 036. So much so that now I’m thinking of dusting off the Wavetrac sitting in my storage and install that too.

Tone is so subtle at idle. Gentle tap of the throttle alerts anyone within earshot with the low gurgle of something lurking under the hood. Loving it.

Kudos to my Indy for making this happen (pic): Successfully pulling off all pieces in tact, specifically center resonator mating to the cat.

Wow your mech did a fantastic job preserving that resonator.
The best part is you can save that unit for a rainy day (day you sell the car) to the next owner and beat mine up daily.

thanks for your support and to everyone that has supported this project over the years.

I think 5SR and others have already done that earlier, elsewhere in similar threads on the forum relating to this exhaust system.

Check this thread.

@5thscaleracer — I was trying to be nice and avoid use of this smilie. Because, bullying
