2019 Flieben /Leistung Autohaus 500e/e500 exhaust kit group buy

I have a customer that purchased a 500E Turndown cat back kit, he is looking to sell due to selling off his 500E.

If any one is interested let me know and i can put you in touch with the owner.

The kit is new in the box still sealed up.

Thanks for the support
JC

I’ve been meaning to ask about the cats that come with this exhaust. How many cells and who makes them? Is the matrix steel or ceramic? Has anyone ran this exhaust with 200 cell steel matrix HJS cats?

Front section comes with a test pipe no catalytic converter.

Those that need a 50 state catalytic converter can purchase one
Specs
TWHC catalytic converter
400-600CPI depending on current smog legal requirements.
Ceramic honeycomb

There are not steel core cats they are called Metallic Substrate.

Brand is irrelevant because it's based on metal content and who has the correct EO approved number for the current year based on the application. So if you really want to know the brand the cores (not finished product) are sourced form APC, Continental, Tenneco, Car Sound etc. Every time I order catalysts its always based on approved EO # and flow specifications for the application.

If you wish to run HJC cats you would have to provide the cats and they will be made to fit. I have done a set for a customer who was adamant about running a HJC cat he is located in Canada.

HJC makes fantastic performance catalytic converters but they are not smog legal in all 50 states, here in the USA they are classified as a performance catalytic converter "Race use only". They are great for track events that require catalytic converters and sound control.

If you are looking for max power ditch the cat, if it's for smog then get a legal cat. Running an HJC 200CPI cat is cool and all but at a $500-800 price tag for each catalytic converter whats the point? HJS cats work best when they are close to the manifold or right next to a turbocharger, having them under the car causes issues with heat expansion. Cats like to hit a temp and stay there, they are not happy if it heats then cools thats causes the biscuit (core) to shrink and you end up with a rattle noise. The common cats like Magnaflow are designed for stop and go traffic, Hot/Cold situations. The ceramic style catalytic converters do not shrink and tend to last longer.

HJS cats LOVE heat they are more efficient when they are extremely hot.

HJS part number needed for the 500E 90950072, 2 units will be required current price is about 640Euro before shipping.

let me know if you have any other questions...

Since I m still very very very tempted to buy one if these exhausts in turn down tip style (however other projects demand current higher attention). Would it also be possible to make a one piece front section with the HJS 90950082 cats?
I anyhow would give the front section and cross over pipe away to install a heat insulation to ensure proper working condition for the converters in this manner:

@5thscaleracer, thank you for the info. I was curious how your exhaust would sound with HJS cats. I’ve been running the HD 200 cell cats from HJS for 5 years now and they are performing quite well. Got them initially when I was still tracking the car, but now with 3 years and no track time, the cats are performing great on the streets. When I corresponded with HJS directly (before getting their HD cats) and brought up the street usage, I was told since their HD cats (and they recommended the HD cats over their HF or TS designs for street use) incorporate compression indents in the middle of the mantle to hold the metallic substrate in place and brazing stripes, the metallic substrate is secured quite well for all conditions. I have no rattling from the cats. I also passed the smog check, not by much, but still passed here in California.

I’m surprised they passed the HJS cats in CA because they don’t have a CARB EO#.

I have never used the HD cats due to cost... I was not aware of the difference of the HD and regular design.

what rear muffler is that magnaflow? It has the traditional hollow sound of a magnaflow. I’m curious on the brand because it gives me a reference point when doing exhaust projects on similar spec engines.

It looks like the substrate‘s washcoat HJS uses on their HD 200 cell cats is ok (or close to it) to pass the smog check, but I warmed up the car on the freeway first and the smog station was right off the freeway, so the test was done right after I got there. I have my routes planned. Plus the smog station I use does not raise the car to check the cats.

Yeah, the cost of these puppies is not cheap, but I was tracking my car back then and wanted the best cats available to handle the track. When I was looking into the HJS cats, I found out that their U.S. location closed, so their cats were not available for purchase here, at least not where I looked. But the raw core of the cats can be purchased here (got mine from Fabspeed Motorsport out of Pennsylvania) who also provided and orbital welded the end caps.

> HJS HD 200cpsi Raw Large Directional Catalytic Converter use for 996TT+/LP640/970T.
> Large end caps for 997 GT3 Headers/McLaren Sport Cats

The HD design utilizes triple foil winding and three winding centers (vs. two of each for the HF and TS designs) for their metallic substrate to create an ‘S” wound construction, thus making them tougher with better structural integrity. The other two designs are really made for the track, as they match up to the cats HJS offers for motorsport applications vs. tuning applications.

Not from Magnaflow. The two sport mufflers (as well as the X pipe) were custom made by the tuning shop that also built the exhaust. When I did inquire into the mufflers and what type of sound I can expect, I was told that origin of the type of sound came from the 928 S4 Porsche, as the owner of the shop had one and really liked that V8 growl.

Just purchased this kit a couple weeks ago and installed on my 500e that I am now planning on selling. The exhaust was used for roughly 100 miles total since installation. I am now selling this like new flieben full kit for sale and I will discount the price accordingly. $1300 plus shipping to anyone interested. Thank you! Please reach me via email for inquiries at mattjordanschwartz@gmail.com or by phone at 310-560-5310

What did the chicks think after you installed it? Did they dig the exhaust?

Just had my cat back kit fitted. Haven't fired it up yet - vehicle is in the workshop getting new timing chain guide rails and distributors, and a bunch of small things sorted. Will post news about results as soon as I can.

Any advice on the MagnaFlow 23581 system out of Tennessee with regard to sound and resonance? The same question on the Royal System out of Canada? Both for the 500E

There is going to be very little difference in sound or resonance for different catalysts, either OE or aftermarket. I couldn't tell any difference between the OE and Magnaflow. The bigger differences will be from the cat-back section, OR if you have a cat-delete for off-road use. The M119 is already pretty quiet and will never sound like a GT500 Voodoo engine no matter what you do to the exhaust.

The Magnaflow sections do not slip together as claimed, plan on cutting/welding. It's a manufacturing defect and I don't know if that has been corrected or not. It will cost you $1k to find out.

I am not familiar with the Royal System you describe, never seen it.

The "Royal System" is on ebay at $166.56 with Free Shipping. I wonder what one gets?
$166 would get you a generic weld-in catalyst, NOT a full bolt-in system. This would be welded into your existing pipes on the car.
