92’ 500e ASR light comes on

Hello,
Do anyone have an idea why car goes to limp mode. When i start my car at idle it runs good. As soon i push throttle pedal lightly, ASR comes on and car goes to limp mode and keeps about 1100rpm. When i start car again and push throttle faster then ASR light won’t come and car runs good. I know that i should look some diagnostic guy to read codes because i do not have anything to read them with.

Diagnostic codes will help pinpoint the cause.

Could be the throttle linkage needs adjustment, or a failing ETA, or failing switch behind the gas pedal. Really need fault codes.

:cel:

Ok thanks for that. I should find someone with code reader then. Maby i’ll do the reader myself but then its clearer what it is. Mu first thoughts were also either the linkage or ETA. But i hope it’s linkage or switch behind the pedal. I just put back together intake and wire harness. I keep you updated.

I made code reader myself today and pulled out some codes. #8 - 6,9,10,11,12,17; #6 - 30; #30 - 3,5,8,9; erased them all and from pin #30 - 3 and 5 keeps coming back. After that abs and asr lights came on and car runs good.
I have to decode fault codes and read them again tomorrow when i get home.

ASR went off and haven't came up anymore. no warning lights at all. I still read codes and those came up: #4-22; #6-30; #7-6,14; #17-18; #30-3.

Great, now use the PDF document linked in post #5 to translate those codes and troubleshoot them.

Done that already, #4 - 22 tried to clean ground connection, haven't read or deleted code yet,
#6 - 30 (CAN data bus interrupted) it probably came from removing module
#7 - 6 (starter lock-out backup lamp switch (S16/1) ??? what to look
#17 - 18 (magnets for CKP sensor L5 interrupted) could it be that magnets what i have changed were somehow wrong to this engine but fitted well?
#30 - 3, driver airbag squib(R12/3) what to look there?

thanks for advice!

I assume you have cleared all codes and these 5 codes keep recurring. If not, clear everything and drive the car again, then re-test.

#4 - 22: indicates oxygen sensor or wiring problem
#6 - 30: see post #5
#7 - 6: test/adjust/replace starter lock-out backup lamp switch (S16/1)
#17 - 18: visually inspect that both flywheel magnets are present, if so, try adding shim to sensor as described here
#30 - 3: inspect/replace driver airbag squib(R12/3), look for bad solder joint as shown here

Are you sure you changed magnets and why did you do that?

I changed camshaft adjusting magnets and gasgets behind them because the gasgets were leaking and oily. And car is 29years old and there is nothing done on this car. I’m renewing the engine with parts what needs to be changed. Maby these magnet adjusters were unnessesary to change but i did that also. Now i have to deal with aftercomes to get the car running smoothly.

Camshaft is not crankshaft! And there are no magnets at the camshaft. I don‘t understand what you really did.

Sorry, my bad. Read the failure codes wrong. I changed camshaft adjustment magnets but it have nothing to do with crankshaft sensor.

The camshaft "magnets" are also called "solenoids". Big round thing near the distributors. That is not what the code is referring to.

EZL code 18 is referring to the small magnets on the flywheel / flex plate, that trigger the crank position sensor (CKP / L5).

Gonna check those when i get somewhere under the car. Thanks!
