AMG ducktail on E500E

These look good dude, needs to be a modded E500E though with wider alloys etc., otherwise it just looks wrong! And if you have a Lorinser/Brabus theme going on then it's probably not something I'd go with. Otherwise, yes they can look quite mean!

AMG's original ducktail was custom steel fabrication. The add-on piece they made was only for pre-facelift 500E and would require bodywork to conform to the different profile of the E500 trunk lid, although not sure how that would work with the injection-molded material they used (someone must know the correct term). The AMG copies I've come across also have the same issue so if you find one that fits the facelift trunk it would be welcome news to many I'm sure. As to your question, I recall from the early articles on the Hammer that the distinctive heckspoiler provided meaningful stability at high speeds so, looks aside, it has a functional role for those inclined to vmax ;-)

Years ago I ordered one at great expense from AMG NA, but sent it back because of the fit issue. Recently came across the badge kit that came with it, seems I forgot to sent that back!

Dean is correct. The AMG ducktail will fit pre-facelift (500E) trunk lids, but required modification to fit facelift (E500) trunk lids... primarily in the center, to clear the chrome handle.

:agree:

This part will be the problem area , for some reason it looks a lot bigger in the picture than how it looks in real life the ducktail i mean

Actually, Westmont was the only known AMG facility to offer metal ducktails and blending of them into the body lines (these were not available via Mercedes or AMG directly). The original (available from AMG) ducktail was polyurethane (with molded AMG logo), the gen II did away with the molded logo and included a ///AMG stick on script.

I didn't know they had polyurethane ones. All the original ones that I've seen and had were injected high density foam with a polyester coating on the surface. And over time the foam would dry out and become brittle or fit like $hit.

I could be wrong on the exact makeup of the material, it feels like polyurethane and is hard, not flexible. It could be some sort of ABS material, polypropylene etc.
