Anyone have specs on the ABS Pump Bleeder Screw 000-420-49-55?

Jlaa, Isn’t that the same size as a caliper bleeder? One off of any MB brake caliper should fit. I think? :brudda:
I dunno. I don't want to attack it with vice-grips and Kroil until I have a spare screw handy!

However, the brake caliper bleeder is 000-421-27-65 [EDIT - superseded by 000-421-39-65, which @emerydc8 mentions below] and is about $8, discounted. It is M8x1.25, Length 36mm, Head is Hex 9mm ----- which is a different part number. 🤷‍♂️

I was looking for this bleeder diagram and part number but never found it in the EPC. My ASR bleeder has been stripped for years and I don't want to force it because I don't know if the part is still available, or if it will break off and need to be drilled out, which raises contamination issues. I don't know if this helps, but the regular bleeder valve is 000 421 39 65 and it is an M8 1.25 thread. I think the ASR bleeder is larger but I was waiting for someone else to post on it. It took a year-- almost to the day--since I ordered this part.

Well! Misery loves company! 😵‍💫

Holy crap! You ordered the M8x1.25 36mm length brake bleeder and IT TOOK A YEAR to get to you?!????! I saw that you posted your original lament about the ABS pump bleeder screw in Jan 2020.

I meant to say that the date stamped on that part was February 2022 and it has sat on my shelf since then because I was waiting for someone else to cross this bridge. I searched for my old post on this but couldn't find it. It probably was several years old. In fact, IIRC, I was expecting @gerryvz to do a HOW-TO on rebuilding the charge pump because I also ordered the brake hose leading to that pump a year ago. A good excuse to procrastinate!

Well …. @emerydc8 your patience has rewarded you with another poor sod that must cross this bridge! 😅. Here is your original post HOW-TO: Replacing 500E/E500 Brake Fluid | "HOW-TO" Tutorial Articles also duplicated below. Do you have a right angle drill? That might work best to drill it out?
I was about to bleed the brakes but I was stopped right at the first step when the SP bleeder valve stripped, so I resorted to a bolt extractor which initially appeared to work until I realized that no fluid was coming out. Now I have a broken bleeder valve stuck inside the ASR unit. This car was originally a Florida car so it seems that almost every bolt that touches aluminum has corroded and welded itself in. I decided to abort the bleed job for the day and order a new bleeder. As for getting the old bleeder out, Im thinking Ill have to drill it and use a bolt extractor or easy-out. Any suggestions?

[EDIT]: The bleeder valve is $41.44! I think I may just forget about trying to replace this valve. It could turn into a bigger can of worms if I damage the threads of the ASR unit trying to drill the old valve out or, worse yet, contimate the ASR system with metal debris from drilling.

Thank you @Jlaa for finding that old post and refreshing my recollection from three years ago. My bleeder screw was somehow stripped or broken off on the inside of the ABS unit. I never did anything about it and at this point, balancing the risk-reward factor, I'll probably just leave it because I could create a real mess if I started drilling and the shavings got into the hydraulic system. I just checked and there is zero leaking. Of course, I will be interested to see what you do about yours! You are in a better position right now than me because you haven't yet broken off the bleeder valve inside the unit. Hopefully you get a 10 mm extractor and it all comes out in one piece.

Good excuse to buy an induction heater thingy? :spend:

Gotta be someone who raids junkyards that can swipe a good used bleeder from the ASR unit. Appears to be the same part on most all 90's-vintage models with ASR.

I am not liking the usage of the word "yet" here..... 🤨

Yeah, gotta make the trip to a junkyard. I was thinking of doing that, and that includes a sunk cost of $7 Bay Bridge Tolls, something like $4 Pick'n'Pull entrance fee, and gasoline. That's like $20 sunk cost with no guarantee of success, or 50% of the cost of a new bleeder screw! 😬 I would need to amortize that across something else I could find that fetch value! 🤣

I tried pb blaster and some heat.

Now we are in the same boat. The screw sheared off in the same place. I'll just let it be. It isn't leaking. 😂
