I created a forum account years ago as I had seriously considered purchasing a 500E more than once in the past. Unfortunately it never materialized for various reasons, and based on current pricing for nice examples, that ship has sailed for me.
While browsing Bring a Trailer about a month ago, this particular 400E caught my eye. I wasn’t in the market for another car, but decided to move forward with bidding, and ultimately won the auction. Besides the appeal of the car itself, the purchase provided the opportunity for an (almost) cross-country road trip…something I’ve wanted to accomplish for years. So I flew to San Francisco for pickup, did some sightseeing out west, and 3,000+ trouble-free miles later I’m home in North Georgia.
A little background on the 400E - it was purchased new in Oregon and remained there until mid-2020, when it was moved south to the Bay Area. The PNW climate and enthusiast previous owners have been very kind to this car. The cosmetics are really impressive for a car of this age. There are some minor needs (what nearly 30 year old car doesn’t?) and some planned upgrades, which I’ll address in time and plan to share here.
