Cheers for the tip lads on the copper washers I’ll ensure that’s implemented. Does anyone have the part number for the washers? The fuel pumps are fine so far so I don’t have a replacement on the cards.

Regarding the brakes @gsxr they’re all similar all around checked by the main man himself Tasos. I would like to go for a brake upgrade. Ideally, I want a front and rear big brake kit for looks and performance, the silver arrow kit is a strong contender too but what to do with the rears? The NEEZ EURO 5 rims want to show off big brakes!

Indeed, great to meet with Ilya. As per my previous posts, I was thinking of selling the car. Very pleasant experience with Ilya, shame we couldn’t come to a deal. Glad for me though still have my E500.

Your E500 may have the 300mm rear brakes already, which work very well with the 334mm fronts. You don't want to go too large in the rear or you can end up with unbalanced braking forces. MB factory setup on the late R129's was 334mm front with 300mm rear.

The parts have been ordered, namely the fuel hose, washers, transmission fluid and differential fluid. I have a spare fuel filter and transmission filter at home, so I will use those as they are otherwise collecting dust.

@gsxr although I do not have an audible blow of the exhaust, that part of the exhaust came off in the recent past when I previously installed the Supersprint exhaust (now back to stock) so it should not give up much of a fight and whilst the car is in the garage it would be good to get this sorted. If I have the parts at home I will go with it.

I observed I am missing one of the airbox clips at the front of the airbox and both of the rear screws (I left these off in the past when I was doing diagnostic on the misfire in the past) so I will also be installing these back in so the airbox is firmly fixed to the engine.

Parts are going to take another 4-5 days to arrive so I hope by next weekend I can get the car booked in and fixed.

I would also like to replace the transmission tunnel insulation as like many cars this has come down. For now, I do need to resolve it (cut a part of it out probably) as it rubs on the propshaft and seems like it could be a fire risk with friction and heat. After reading on this forum, that part is super NLA so I may have to follow the creative idea of another member and have one made.

Transmission tunnel insulation is NLA for several models including the W202. It starts to sag and rubs against the prop shaft. We need a better solution, might be these insulation pads like dynamat ?

I’m at Tasos garage. The fuel line from the tank to the pumps is a real #^%#€# to remove.

Tasos managed it by loosening the fuel tank, raising the tank, modifying one of his tools to be an open wrench and then loosening the nut and unscrewing the hose from the underside by hand. Existing screen looks ok so cleaned up and reinstalled. Tank is mint inside. Vaseline on the rubber grommet. Car being reassembled now let’s hope it all goes back together all OK.

Original hose cracked only really on the outside but was beginning to fall apart whilst we twisted it to remove it.

It sure is. Note it's only a RPITA on 124's with SLS (which is all 036, but very few 034). It's the SLS valve that blocks access.

That's what I've done as well... use tools from inside the trunk, below the tank. It's basically inaccessible from under the car (with SLS), unless you pull the differential.

That's a relief. The screen is NLA. :relieved:

That's generally what I've observed, the outer rubber is cracked significantly, but it's intact inside. Probably helps that this hose is never under more than about 1psi, or whatever pressure is inside the tank.

Thanks Dave. I did not drive the car home as there are a few one time clips, the vent valve etc that could do with being replaced during reassembly. We didn't really plan to pull the tank, I guess I should have researched this job in more detail before we began the work.

Everything appears to be available looking online on eBay which is generally a good gauge, the garage will check with the stealer on Monday.

Brief update on my E500. All the work has been completed, with all the new fuel lines, clips, hoses and valves replaced with OEM MB parts.

The gearbox oil and filter have also been replaced along with a cursory change of the differential oil.

I received the car back on Thursday evening and I’ve since done 2 long drives, car feels fantastic with no visible leaks so far.

The transmission tunnel insulation has been trimmed back as it was fouling the driveshaft and I didn’t want issues with this over the summer.

Next weekend I’ll have the car on the ramp again for a cursory check over and to ensure no leaks.

It is with a very heavy heart I announce that I have sold my E500 Limited.

It’s been over 5 years with this wonderful car, many memorable moments and overall, an extremely pleasurable ownership experience with this brilliant car. Even if it did thrash my wallet every 3 months.

Up until last weekend I was convinced I did not want to sell this car and even managed to convince the legend Ahmad @ MB Club Kuwait to visit me at my home to help with diagnosing misfires (yet again). At least through Ahmad’s expertise and diagnostic equipment we know the NSS is bad and I’ve sent a new OEM part with the new owner.

I’ll still lurk here as I do have an urge to move to an W124 AMG E60 at some point. Values are still incredibly strong for these so I fear it will not be anytime soon but you never know when something pops up.

In the meantime: I’ll continue to frequent this forum and of course thank you to EVERYONE on this awesome forum for the advice, encouragement and entertainment over the years.

I understand the car will be exported from the UAE to Russia shortly. The new owner is a YouTuber so I’m sure this is not the last you’ll see of my ex-E500.

Some photos of my last moments with the car for your viewing pleasure whilst I sulk in the corner 😢

All the best,

Bilal

Noooo! Well, as you said, this opens up the opportunity to upgrade to the E60. Or any 036 with a 6L (doesn't need to be AMG)...

@e500.org,
Bilal/Bill, I’m sorry to hear that you have and your beloved E500 have separated. I’ve enjoyed following your trip thru our E500board from a long way back.

I hope you stick around and eventually turn up with that E60 or something else with a 6.0 in it.

See you on the other side.

Take Care
