BTW - your vacuum modulator is incorrect. Do you have a record of when it was replaced, and what part number was used? They are color coded by pressure raring, and the bright green one is for lower pressure, for lower-torque engines. Stock 5.0L should be a black modulator, p/n 126-270-91-79 (or, 126-270-43-79).

It appears you may have 126-270-92-79 which is NOT correct for a 5.0L engine. :(

This also might be affecting your upshift RPM's.

I would replace the green modulator first, before you do anything else.

OK - if you have installed 140-270-04-79, that will also work. Your photo makes it appear bright/neon green, which appears to be a different unit. Could be the camera or lighting. Your picture above of 140-270-04-79 is correct for the E60. It is a light green with black base.

You had the same problem with 5600rpm upshifts before and after, correct? If so, you're back to adjusting the setscrew on the VW in the opposite direction. This can be done without completely removing the transmission pan, but it will need to be drained and lowered enough to get an Allen wrench on the adjusting screw.

Thanks for replying guys
I will adjust the screw tomorrow

Yes I have the same issue before changing and after changing the modulator
Only effect is the gear shift is much better and smooth after changing to the E60 modulator

I have taken down oil pan for the transmission and adjusted the screw 2.5 anti clockwise
Refilled with new transmission oil. And take the car for a spinn. Now the car when gear lever is in D hits almost Rev limiter 5900 rpm

Is that correct?

I have also adjusted half turn clockwise for the modulator

I take the car for long drive its fun to drive now

Yes. Normal full-throttle upshifts should be right around 6000rpm. Sounds like you may have fixed the problem!

Car looks incredible, well done :) amazing transformation since when I first saw that car in the Dubai used car market !

Where did you get that grill from or was it already installed in your E500? I just fitted a new OEM grill but I do like the aftermarket S600 avantgarde one very much.

Thanks Bilal
Yes the car is amazing now, I get loot of comments on car, it's was lot of work, but now the car is 85% restored to orginal like she was back in 1994,
I'm missing
1.Cell phone in the armrest
2.Fire extinguisher
3.OEM radio
I have bought the seats insert from ulrich, but this is a winter project this year, same as for the rims.
About the grill it was with the car when I bought it, but the grill frame is oem and the insert is aftermarket or OEM, I found this insert the parts catalog for Mercedes

I have painted the grey stripes black and polished ut rest of the insert parts

This is what I found in the parts catalog

It's probably too late now, but any chance you can source OE (Genuine Mercedes) or maybe Lemforder for the rear suspension parts? All that Meyle stuff is not made in Germany.

:wormhole:

It's *everything* Meyle. They are not an OEM manufacturer for Mercedes and never have been. A lot of their parts are made in China and are questionable quality, which is why the price is so low. Jono says the Meyle "HD" items are ok, for example front strut mounts, but if it's not the "HD" line... I'd avoid it.

BTW, the differential mounts (large 66mm diameter, part number 129-351-18-42) are installed in a precise location in the subframe, using a very expensive factory tool. Measure the position of the old ones BEFORE removing them. Install the new ones in the same location. This will make the front mounting bolt line up correctly.

In Norway we have used lots of suspension parts from meyle, and in my workshop we have used many suspension parts from Meyle and don't have any complains about bad quality of the product,

Yes I have measured the position of differential mounts Thanks

I have ordered new fuel hose from the gass tank to the pump its has a very small leak, the hose is from 1993
Powerwash the subframe, and installed with new busses

Great work on your E500 Kashif, once done I think your car will be running amazing.

I would love to restore the underside of my E500, I might just do this soon with respect to all the suspension arms etc, there is nothing really wrong with what is installed but for sure refreshing the parts would make a big difference and it would be pretty amazing to have a basically restored underside. I need to begin collecting the parts...

I have painted the rear diff and gearbox mount
Change the propp shaft bearing
Bought flex disks
New fuel hose from tank

I did this with my C126. Very satisfying step also it to dynamat the floorpan since everything is out. Really helps quiet things dramaticallt.
That’s exactly what I did while mine was out… steam clean the carpet and dynamat the floors. Everything else changed then too (stereo), and the car was new to me (a week or so after I bought it), so I don’t have a real before / after sense. But the car seems “new car” quiet and solid, if that makes any sense. Ziebart “sound deadener” was one of the products we used to apply in my teens, so I’ve always been sold on dynamat any time there’s an opportunity.

@Skikar,
Your Limited looks fantastic! What size are the wheels? Are the Limited plates just on for the pics? From what I have read lately there are few cars left running on petrol.

All new cars must be EVs. Norway is supposedly doing away with ICE vehicles. How much longer before you can’t buy petrol?

Take Care

I second what Terry says- your car looks amazing. Not the biggest fan of the wheels, but my, what a great restoration job you did! 😍

Porsche has its 75th anniversary this year and on that occasion they wanted to borrow the car for exhibition

I have never done anything with the IR locking system, but the link below describes a fix of a completely loose push button inside. Maybe something to check before digging deeper. BTW, the key fob is hard to split, have to use sharp tools like a knife etc..

A Heartfelt Thank You to the Forum - My Mercedes E500 Journey

I hope this message finds you all well. Today, I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who have been a part of my journey with my beloved Mercedes E500 Limited. Selling it was not an easy decision, but I am filled with immense appreciation for the support and guidance I received from this remarkable forum. The car has now found its new owner in Sweden.

When I first joined this community, I was a novice in the world of car restoration, and my E500 was in dire need of attention. It was not just a car for me, it was a dream, a project, and a labor of love. Little did I know that I was about to embark on a remarkable adventure with all of you.

Throughout my time here, I have had the privilege of connecting with passionate enthusiasts, experts, and kindred spirits who shared their knowledge generously. The advice, insights, and troubleshooting tips I received were invaluable, and they played a pivotal role in bringing my E500 back to its former glory. The countless hours you dedicated to helping me overcome challenges, locate rare parts, and make informed decisions made all the difference.

As I bid farewell to my Mercedes E500, I carry with me not just a restored car but also a treasure trove of memories, knowledge, and friendships forged through this forum. You have all made a lasting impact on my life, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

While my journey with this car has come to an end, my involvement in this community will continue. I look forward to staying in touch, sharing my newfound knowledge, and assisting fellow members whenever possible.

Best Regards

Skikar - Kashif Rashid

Kashif - that was a short honeymoon after completion of your Limited.
(BTW, I can't recall seeing it for sale here in Norway before you sold it)

Any plans for another 036? :)
