E60 AMG LH injection module - genuine? Input please...

The part number doesn't show up in the EPC, which isn't surprising as this appears to be an AMG Japan custom module (i.e., not an original AMG Germany item). Only way to tell would be to try it out. I've been told that it's very difficult to buy from Japan as sellers often aren't willing to sell or ship to USA. I've never done it. Do you have a contact in Japan that would be able to bid/buy for you and forward to the USA?

BTW - the module in Fudgitive's photo appears to be a genuine AMG Germany module (?), and that part number does appear in the EPC.

I wonder if this ECU is for the JDM AMG 400e/E420? Aside from what the seller lists, how do you know its for a 6.0l?

I didn't think there was any thing called an AMG 420e? I thought all conversions of M119's by amg were 6.0 liters.

AMG Japan supposedly made an "AMG" version of the 4.2L engine that made approx 300hp (up from the rated ~275). I don't think much is known about these, possibly different camshafts and a different EPROM?

OK here is the can box opened on a genuine and probably unmolested JDM AMG E420 S2, the vendor was kind enough to allow me to remove the lid with an allen key but asking to remove the module would have been pushing my luck. Matches the last part number you listed Bondavi but this is 100% a 4,2 litre car, not 6.0.

Wow:

230kW = 309 hp (SAE) - !!!!
425Nm = 317 lb-ft

Bummer we can't see the AMG label, if present, on the front of the LH modules. It's just out of view below the 38-pin connector. Does anyone know what AMG Japan did to the 4.2L engine to get it near 5.0L power output...?

Yes Dave but unless you want to wire me $12,250 to buy the car, we are not going to see the rest of that module any time soon...

Excuse my ignorance but it is normal to have yellow coloured paint dabs on the screw heads, both my 6.0 LH module and this one do have that detail in common?

Yeah, I figured as much. Price seems high when 6.0's are available for much less over there. :scratchchin:

For normal/stock modules, there usually is NOT any paint applied to the screw heads. However all the photos I have of AMG modules do have this. So, it might be an AMG thing, although anyone could add the paint. It does seem to indicate that the chip inside is probably not stock. I'd love to get my hands on the code from that chip to see what (if anything) was done to the fuel delivery curves.

No biggie Gerry, I have a Kazakh associate who has been hounding me about that car anyway, so I needed to go have another look at it.... it's been on that lot since last September by the way so price is a little on the high side.

Dave I know I promised you a module quite some time back, problem is I am still driving that car every day ! Patience Habibi...

I seem to recall from hanging out at Talbir's house some years back, that he also has an AMG 6.0 M119 LH module.

Did anyone ever follow up with him on this ?!?

This 4.2 module showed up in yahoo Japan:

Dave, what do these AMG part nbrs translate to?

Very strange. I can't find anything for either the AMG number nor the MB number, and the Bosch number is covered up. I suspect it was a 4.2L W140 module, that has been modified, but there's no way to tell what chip is inside or what displacement it's supposed to be for. Auction link no workee, what are they claiming in the listing?

Ohhhhhhh. That could be the Japan-only AMG 4.2L engine, rated at ~300hp... never seen that anywhere outside of Japan though. I'd love to pick that up to play with it and see what they did in the code, but I don't think it's for a 6.0L motor. You'd need to find someone who speaks Japanese and have them contact the seller for details.

:mushroom:

Of course, no photo of the engine serial number. I'm thinking 4.2L for sure.

:(
