Early 500E headlights vs. 300E headlights

Are assemblies the same other than the plastic headlight door with chrome reflector?

Also, are 500E headlight doors still available new and at what price?

No,

The inner reflector I believe is different. One is a fog light vs one being a driving light.
the lenses are available, but shiping is $$.

The glass portion of the headlight assembly, the actual hi/low lamp unit, is the same as other prelift W124. The plastic 500e headlight doors are still available from MB.

That is correct for the main units of US-model headlights, but the inboard unit was a fog-light on non-500E models and a pencil-beam driving light on 500Es. There is a different reflector/guts for the pencil beam vs. the fog light.

The plastic headlight door was the same for all US models from 1986 through the 1993 model year.

“Yurro” lights are a different story.

I've just bought 500e '93 with some body issues

The plastic headlight doors for the US pre facelift cars are unique to the 500e's. There is a chrome finish surround in the high beam section. Parts numbers are as follows:

124-820-54-12 right
124-820-53-12 left

For those who want them they are still available from MB and I don't imagine they will be forever.

I managed to find and promptly buy a complete driver side Euro pre-facelift 500E headlight from a guy in Israel. Set of Lamin-X on hand. Now I need the right side unit. So close but so far! Any suggestions?
