• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

    Sincerely,

Headlight ducts/buckets alternative PNs?

OE specific parts for the 036:
124 528 09 04 left
124 528 10 04 right

The headlight ducts/buckets are missing on my car, I guess they were removed to improve air supply to the engine when the supercharging was done. I have missed out on a couple of sets for sale here on the forum so I am still on the hunt. I recently came over a set for sale here in Norway which they claim comes from a 500E the PNs are: 124 528 05 04 and 124 528 06 04

I don't have access to any EPC anymore, so could anyone confirm that these can be used?

Many thanks Dave! :thumbsup2:

That's good to know. BTW it's pity that the EPC ceased, I feel pretty much lost on parts info now.
However, then I'm good to go on those ducts I've found, the missing parts are slowly coming together.

Arnt, the online EPC like the ones linked above are very handy - but most online EPC's do not show footnotes, serial/chassis/engine break points, etc.

You can download an EPC that will run either natively on Windows, or in a virtual environment that will run on Windows or Mac. No need for a very "current" version, AFAICT Mercedes stopped updating older chassis many years ago - they don't show the newest part number supercessions in the EPC anymore. I'm using a 2018 version (one of the last releases before EPC was replaced by ISPPI), but any EPC from 2010 or later would be fine for looking up 1990's models.

Couldn't get the EPC in post #4 to work, so I have another PN question related to the headlight ducts; the rubber sealings sitting underneath the headlight ducts. I guess/hope they're not 036 specific and this is the only numbers I can find: #124 826 05 80 and #124 826 06 80
Both appears to be easily available new, supposed it is the correct items.

Arnt, those seals are used on pre-facelift cars only. They attach to the headlight lens frame.

I'm not quite sure what the purpose is, and if you have modified (vented) trim panels, this gasket would need to be deleted to allow airflow.

OK, many thanks! To my understanding are those to seal for water & dirt coming from the underside, but I cannot recall seing much of that coming upon the bumper.

My car is fitted with vented trim panels ATM and everything around the headlights are removed to improve air supply to the supercharger. The air filter and intake to the SC are both inside the engine bay, but this will be moved to open, fresh air. Everything around the headlights will then be built back to stock; headlight ducts, wipers, panels, sealings etc...

In the diagram above showing part #98 as the headlight bucket, what is the part number for #116? I understand they are NLA. Would any other W124 have the same parts?

The part numbers for the air scoops are in a fair number of other threads here on the forum if you search. Particularly in Parts for Sale threads. I just sold one a couple of weeks ago, in fact. Another member has one listed for sale right now.

These surrounds and scoop parts are ONLY used for.V-8 applications on the W124 (400E, 500E etc) and are not shared with any other chassis.

I tried searching but I guess I did so poorly. I found your post but missed that sale. I'm stumbling in the dark having recieved the car without any previous records, no manual, no EPC, and only the faintest knowledge of any Benz built after 1971. What I'm learning is pretty discourging.

Don't be discouraged. Folks here can inform on how to access the EPC. The "W124 Bible" is a good publication for general knowledge. Nearly anything you want to know is available right here on this forum. There should be an additional headlight scoop still listed. If it's not available, I believe I have the driver's side. I will check.

Checked, I have one.

The current sale I referenced is here:

There's no better resource to help you than this site. Literally, ANY and ALL information you will need to repair/restore/maintain your car is here, and over 17+ years has likely been covered before.

For some NLA parts, you will need to be patient, but they do come up.

You can order reproduction SLS hydraulic fluid tanks from Germany, new, if no one here will sell you one (I seem to remember that @captruff? replied to your request to buy one?)

The air intake tubes - you can get repros/repair kits from Germany, or find them on eBay, or perhaps someone here has a used set they will sell. You can also use non-W124 tubes for both sides - I believe a W126 plastic tube works good and looks good too, and possibly others. It's been discussed and there are photos of all these solutions here on the forum.

Our member @nocfn some years ago bought a car that had been heavily modified, and he worked hard over a number of years to bring it back to stock condition, so he may also have some insights to offer on the processes he followed.

Patience is your #1 virtue though, especially with NLA parts. BUT, all NLA parts eventually do come up for sale here, either NOS or used. Sometimes you may have to pay a lot of money, but that's your judgement call as to whether it's worth it. Also keep an occasional eye on eBay too, as very rarely gems can be found there. I believe that Facebook also has a 500E specific group, which is active. I have never been a member (I don't belong to FB) so I can't provide any details on that.

People here also often post a heads up when they see parts for sale that they know folks need.

Thank you all for your replies. I recognize that you all have very valuable information and I have learned the little I have from reading here.
I was able to buy the air cleaner and ducts, as well as an SLS fluid bottle from CaptRuff. I need the other parts of the reservior to make it work, and I can't tell how it's supposed to mount. I need to focus on ensuring the SLS is working properly and then return to the intake. That should be on another thread.

The EPC (electronic parts catalog) exploded view should provide some information on the reservoir attachment.

Also my "Top End Refresh" thread from 2020, in the Project Journals sub-forum, contains all of the information you would need to know for both installing/replacing the reservoir (I replaced with a new one) as well as the intake system and installing its various components.

It's a long thread and a lot of material to wade through, but it is all in there. Most of the good stuff will be in the first 7-8 pages of posts.

I also HIGHLY recommend you peruse these shop manuals and such posted at this link -- please bookmark them:
