500E Headlight Hose

What is this hose in the headlight and is this tube supposed to go on the hose?

That is a vent tube, and NO that hose in your photo DOES NOT connect to it.

The headlight vent port should have a short hose attached that routes through a hole on the back of the plastic enclosure. Because the headlight enclosure is pressurized when driving, the hose must be attached to keep moisture out of the headlights, so the reflectors do not corrode. Add the hose if it is missing. The hose is p/n 124-826-00-29 but is NLA.

Do you know if there is any way to buy this hose even tho its NLA?

Any tubing that is similar in diameter should work. It is only a few inches long.

This is correct - the tubing isn't unique or special, anything the proper diameter will work.

Alternately, find one from a junkyard, or from a car being parted out. All 124.034 models have the same tubes, as well as M104 with HFM (but only 1 tube on the M104 models).

Yes it would be very useful to know all the measurements of the hose.

APproximate dimensions:

ID = 11mm
OD = 15mm
Length = 72mm

It is a pretty soft rubber, not rigid, or even semi-rigid.

Turns out my car never even had a hose I guess because in the hole that's supposed to lead the cable it was a plastic part blocking it.

Is your car USA-spec? Pre-facelift USA models had different headlights which did not require the hose, and had the "plug" filling the hole. When Euro headlights are installed, the hose is required.

It's a seal between the headlight plastic enclosure and the bumper.

I think I have a EU-spec 500E -92. It was imported from Germany to Sweden many years ago. VIN: WDB1240361B810780

Okay so what do you recommend? should I find a suitable hose and just put it there even though it didn't come with it stock?

Yup. Find a proper size hose and add it. This keeps moisture out of the headlamp internals / reflectors.

Now I'm curious how many other Euro-spec cars don't have this hose...
